So what does it look like when Lawson State Community College students take care of business?

Just ask Jasmyne Hill, one of the nation's newest recipients of a major scholarship from Kappa Beta Delta business honor society.

The aspiring entrepreneur recently earned the Dr. Andrew V. Stevenson International Merit Scholarship🏆, which will support her as she continues her studies and works toward her goals.

An excerpt from her winning essay offers a glimpse into her motivation:

“I run a hair braiding business, which has taught me entrepreneurship, financial responsibility, and customer service," Jasmyne wrote. "Mentoring others inspired my goal to empower people through education. My goal is to earn a business degree and open a salon and beauty school. This scholarship will help me continue turning challenges into purpose.”

Jasmyne, who maintains a 3.65 GPA, also serves as vice president of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) at Lawson. It’s no surprise she has a clear vision for what she wants to achieve.

“My personal and academic goals are driven by both my passion for education and my desire to create opportunities for others,” she added in her scholarship application.

Congratulations, Jasmyne! And thank you 😀 to Dr. Stephanie Henry of Lawson's Business and Information Technologies Division, for sharing the good news.

"What is the status of my financial aid?"
"Is it too late to add (or drop) a class????"
"I need some advice about my course requirements. Help!"

When it comes to making the most of college, no one arrives on campus with ALL the answers. In fact, these are three of the most commonly asked questions voiced by students as they settle in.

That's why Lawson State Community College is kicking off this year's summer session with "Ask Student Services," Tuesday, May 26 at 12 p.m. via Zoom.

While some Lawson State Community College students are packing their bags and preparing to leave home this summer for their next big opportunity, one scholar --- Taylor Grace --- has to do it twice!

The recent The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation scholarship winner and aspiring aeronautical engineer is relocating in late May to Maryland to begin a federal internship in her field...and then in August it's off to Clark Atlanta University where she will keep it moving and begin work on her bachelor's degree (and later, dual degree classes with Georgia Tech!).

And to think, it all started with her watching replays of the Challenger Space Shuttle back in elementary school.

Taylor has a story to tell. Read it here: https://www.lawsonstate.edu/news/2026/taylor-cooke-scholarship.aspx
