UAB Sociology features faculty who are teaching specialists and leaders in medical sociology

The program in Sociology at UAB has the mission of developing the knowledge and tools useful in promoting individual well-being and social justice in the local community, region and nation. This is demonstrated by research interests in: homelessness, HIV/AIDS, poverty, mental health and psychological distress, technology, and urban disadvantage. The department is also unique in its focus on the social determinants of health and well-being among vulnerable populations.
