Now beginning our 46th year, we are a board-directed ministry of Briarwood Presbyterian Church committed to serving God and Birmingham by offering quality instruction in classical ballet and dance education within a Christ-centered environment.

For years, Briarwood Ballet has been split into two tracks: the intensive division and the enrichment division.

Originally, the enrichment division was designed for students who wanted to dance more recreationally, but in more recent years the trajectory of this track has shifted.

This year, we have officially changed the name of this track to The Contemporary Division to reflect the shifts made over the past few years.

Now, classes are designed to support the dancers in this track in becoming skilled contemporary dancers through ballet and modern technique, contemporary and improv classes, and varied styles of choreography.

The performing ministry group of the contemporary division, Immanuel, enjoys multiple performance and outreach opportunities throughout each year.

Our goal for these dancers is to equip them to successfully pursue a variety of contemporary and modern styles of dance in college and professionally, to the glory of God.

We are amazed at how the Lord has grown this track through amazing faculty members, curriculum changes, guest artists, and performance opportunities… We can’t wait to see how He will continue to bless the contemporary division in the years to come!

Registration for our Mommy & Me classes are officially open!

Teacher Margaret Anne Owens says, “What a joy it is to teach toddlers to develop a love of movement and music! Our hope is that this early introduction will begin a lifelong appreciation for creativity and expression that will continue to develop for years to come. Please join us!”

Who: 18-36 month-olds and mom or adult caregiver

When: Thursdays, 9:30-10:15 a.m.

Cost: $200 per 10-week session

We are thrilled to announce our annual summer showcase on July 10th and 11th! “Encounters With Christ” is a collection of dances in contemporary styles that highlight stories from the Bible where Jesus performed miracles and transformed lives. The same Jesus who healed the lame, fed the 5000, and rose from the dead is the same God we serve today! Come worship with us as we celebrate the power, goodness, and majesty of our King.

Our 2026-27 dance classes will be open for registration starting Tuesday, June 16. Registration for current students and their siblings opens at 8:00 a.m., and new students at 1:00 p.m.

Our annual Summer Dance Intensive is a six-week program for dancers rising 5th-12th grade. During the summer, dancers will focus on developing modern and contemporary dance styles in addition to classical ballet technique in a Christian environment. Summer class schedules also include rehearsals that lead up to this year’s Summer Showcase “Encounters With Christ”. For many of our dancers, this is their favorite time of year where they are able to gain more performance experience and explore different dance styles!

We can’t wait to share an early “Peek at The Promise” with you all!

This is a free, come-and-go event. Come meet the characters of The Promise in their beautiful costumes, get your photo taken with them, and grab your copy of the brand new book “The Promise”!

“The Promise” was written by our very own Mrs. Peggy, capturing the story of The Promise in a beautiful, meaningful way. We know you’ll love reading the story that will come to life onstage in just a few weeks!

You can pre-order the book through our website, and pick it up as you arrive at the event. Get your copy signed by your favorite dancers including Josephine, the Three Sisters, Madame LeClaire, and The Spirit of The Promise!

We can’t wait to bring ”The Promise” to the stage this spring! This exciting performance is an allegorical retelling of the story of Joseph, reminding us that even in the darkest times God is faithfully working all things together for our good, according to His promise.

Tickets are currently available for purchase via our website.

We are excited to share our next performance, “Let Praise Arise”, with our friends and audiences up in Tennessee!

During this powerful night of worship at Highlands Church of the Cumberlands , Ballet Exaltation and Immanuel will perform a collection of our favorite worship pieces including “All Hail King Jesus” and ”Creation Waits”. Our prayer is for the Lord to use this performance to open eyes to see the goodness of God and draw use closer to Him through worship. Join us as we praise His name together!
