On Monday, August 24 at 7pm, we'll learn more about the four ships and 58 crew members lost when a “perfect storm” swept over Lake Erie on what would come to be known as Black Friday - October 20, 1916. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 1927 Library building, we are offering you the chance to design special edition library cards and bookmarks for use in 2027!

Designs selected by library staff will be turned into library cards and bookmarks that will be available beginning in January.

It's an exciting day at BPL - our updated catalog is now available! Take a look at catalog.baldwinlib.org.

With the new layout, you will notice that multiple formats for one title show up together in the results list, and you can choose which version of the item you would like to borrow from the tabs in one 'row'.

We hope that this layout provides a quicker and easier way to browse the results list!

The Open Digital Studio launched on August 2. Made possible with a grant from the Michigan Architectural Foundation, the Open Digital Studio is a self-guided design station built around a 13" iPad Pro with Apple Pencil and Sketchpad Pro Drawing Frame. This interactive display invites patrons to try their hand at digital design - sketching, 3D modeling, and architectural drawing. It is a passive program, with no appointment, sign-up, or experience required.

Users will draw two cards, a "Make" card and a "Rule" card. Combined, these cards provide the core of the exercise, consisting of an interesting drawing task and an amusing constraint. The iPad contains several apps, along with descriptions of their functions, and patrons will decide which one is right for their task. A catalog of design ideas and instructions, inspired by the experimental Fluxus art movement of the 1970s, offers inspiration to anyone who interacts with the display
