AOBFE students received an opportunity to finalize their Limitless Groups Presentations today. Henry Lyles of Empowered to Conquer was gracious enough to schedule this time with the students to ensure they are prepared to present their final projects on Dec. 9. Empowered to Conquer has been instrumental in helping AOBFE meet work based learning goals by allowing us to utilize their Limitless Groups Curriculum, providing facilitators, creating internship opportunities, financial aid awareness, scholarship awards, guest speakers, mentorship, soft skills training, student incentives, and so much more. We are grateful for this invaluable partnership and the continuous support AOBFE Advisory Board Chair Brittany Hogan provides along with her dynamic team. Empowered to Conquer, you all rock!!! Let us not forget to give a special shout out to AOBFE Board Member Demetri Carpenter of the Birmingham Dream Center for allowing us to use their facility today. Thanks a bunch!!!

Day 2: AOBF Marketing Intercession
AOBF Magic City Business & Civil Rights History at Vulcan
When you think of visiting the Vulcan Statue you do not think of the business, financial, or civil rights ties it has to the Magic City. Students received an opportunity to find out how Vulcan Park is historically linked to their neighborhoods. They learned about the business and financial practices that were utilized many years ago along with its rich natural resources and how they were instrumental in shaping today’s Magic City. They were left in awe of how much information they didn’t know about the city and the neighborhoods in which they live.

Day 1: AOBF RETAIL MARKETING COMPARISON
Students were given different events to shop for like a Super Bowl Party, Baby Shower, Sleepover, Birthday Party etc. They were tasked with visiting two top retail stores and choosing quality items, looking at unit costs, doing comparison shopping, looking at product placement, the shopping environment, employee behaviors, and reporting on their findings and overall experience. Let’s just say they stumbled upon some interesting information. They absolutely loved this experience and the biggest takeaways were to make a list before you go and sometimes quality is definitely better than quantity. We have some expert shoppers now!!!
