Ruben Morris, founder of Alabama Aerospace and Aviation High School, grew up envisioning a world where Alabama students could access specialized opportunities in aviation.

"I always wanted to be a pilot," Ruben shares. "I wanted to be a commercial pilot. But when I got to high school, the only option given to me was to go to the military."

Ruben’s dream has taken flight in Bessemer, Alabama, thanks in part to the New Schools for Alabama School Founders Program.

Through personalized support—including quality school visits, charter development guidance, and operational planning—Ruben overcame numerous challenges to establish Alabama's first aviation-focused high school.

The result? A groundbreaking educational experience that inspires students to explore careers in aviation and aerospace.
