We are still accepting applications for the Servant Leader Intern position for our program this summer! CDF Freedom School Servant Leader Interns, or SLIs, are college students or recent college graduates who serve as the teachers for our scholars! They facilitate our Integrated Reading Curriculum and engage our scholars in fun, enriching activities. Although this position involves teaching, you don't have to be an education major to apply! Thank you to District Attorney Danny Carr for joining us this morning as our Harambee Read Aloud Guest! He read The Doctor with an Eye for Eyes, a picture book about Dr. Patricia Bath, a Black ophthalmologist and inventor. This book paired so well with this week’s theme, which is “I Can Make a Difference in My World!”
District Attorney Carr encouraged our scholars to continue in their education, to keep pushing past any obstacles placed in front of them, and to remove barriers for others like Dr. Bath. Thank you so much!!

Thank you so much Ms. Swain!!

Scholars and STEM, a perfect pair! Mr. Frank Hatten from The Boeing Company has been joining us via zoom to help our Servant Leader Interns facilitate STEM activities! Yesterday, our level I scholars used paper cups and rubber bands to simulate rocket launches! We tested them afterwards and several of their paper rockets launched over 1 foot! Our level II scholars built planes using skewers, cardstock, and balloons! Wow! Awesome job, scholars!!
