International Language Association (ILA) is a student-run organization with a mission to provide a centralized way for students to practice their foreign language skills beyond the classroom, easily build connections with native speakers and international students through language learning, and provide insights to each others’ culture. We will hold weekly fun events where we connect foreign langua

ge learners with native speakers and international students to practice the language through fun, interactive activities. We started with Mandarin, Japanese, Korean and ESL and have expanded to include Italian and Cantonese.

When asked why she chose to join ILA and teach Spanish, she said: “Spanish means a lot to me because it is the only way I can really connect with my culture and talk to my family as they were not born in the United States. Speaking Spanish allows me to tap into my roots and feel more at home.”

Meet Yumeno! Yumeno is our Head Japanese Language Coordinator!

When asked why she joined ILA, she said: “I have been exposed to the Japanese language and culture since a young age. When I saw this organization, I thought it was a great opportunity to share my experiences as well as teach people about the culture I grew to love. By having weekly themes, I am not only able to teach people new things, but I also learn alongside, making it more exciting to teach.”

Meet Jiaxuan! Jiaxuan is our Head Mandarin Language Coordinator!

When asked why she joined ILA, she said: “I think cultures and languages are like a magic world to me. I found myself really into languages and cultures from a very young age. I’d like to talk with people who are other than my native tongue. Getting an opportunity to be exposed to different cultures and language environments is fascinating. I also enjoy sharing my culture with others, making bonds and new friends.”
