If you are an employer at a medical facility, hospital or private practice. There was a big win for credentialed medical assistants as of January 1, 2013. In the past according to the CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services), only "licensed Health Care Professionals" (doctors, nurse practitioner, etc.) were allowed to enter information regarding medication, laboratory and radiology orders into the EHR (electronic health record) in order for those entries to be counted towards meeting the meaningful use requirements of the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive program.

"Credentialed Medical Assistants" are now allowed to enter this information as well! It is of the utmost importance that medical assistants become credentialed as an
CMA(AAMA), NCMA(NCCT), RMA(AMT) or CCMA(NHA) to meet these requirements.
