Start where you are. Use what you have. Believe in what you’re building. Own your place.

Even if your empire starts with a pile of hay. 🌾

A little bittersweet farm update. 🦚

Our peahen had been sitting on eggs this season, but unfortunately they did not hatch. This has been her third season trying without success, which has been sad to watch.

We were close to stepping in and removing the eggs for her well-being, but she finally decided on her own that it was time to leave the nest.

This was her first real interaction with our peacock after nesting for so long, and it was sweet to see them back together again.

Not every farm story has the ending we hope for. Farm life comes with beautiful moments, hard moments, and a lot of learning in between. 💚

The barn is waking up, morning chores are started, and the chickens are loudly announcing that breakfast is served. 🐓

Dumpling is 42 years old and has always been our independent, slightly grumpy old lady. 🫏

But since Daisy came along, she seems to have found her soft spot. These two have finally bonded, and now Dumpling has gone from “leave me alone” to her sweet grandma era.

Back scratches, shoulder nibbles, and the sweetest little friendship we didn’t know we needed. 💛

Why do alpacas roll in the dirt? 🦙🌾

This behavior is called dust bathing. Alpacas use dry dirt or sand as a natural way to groom themselves. The dust helps work through their fleece, loosen debris, absorb extra moisture, and may help make their coat less inviting to external parasites.

So yes, they are making themselves “clean” by getting dirty. It may look silly, but for alpacas, it’s just part of taking care of themselves.

Finally, some rain came through and helped cool off this heat wave. 🌧️🐮

The girls were so happy to be out enjoying the cooler morning, they almost forgot breakfast was waiting.
