WE ARE LOSING WORK HOURS TO TECHNOLOGY — AND WE’VE DECIDED THAT’S NORMAL.

We talk constantly about workforce shortages: We need more people. We can’t find enough workers. We need to increase productivity. But perhaps we should ask a harder question: How much productive capacity are we losing from the people we already employ? A 2026 Standley Systems survey of 500 desk workers found that 85% experience a technology-related slowdown at least once every workday, while 28% lose an hour or more of productivity each week. A separate Ponemon Institute study found employees spend an average of 12.6 minutes every week entering or resetting passwords....RESETTING PASSWORDS...10.9 hours a year per employee!!!

These aren't simply annoyances. Multiply those minutes across hundreds of employees and thousands of workdays, and the “little things” become a very real workforce problem.

So let's change the conversation. Before we ask employers to find more workers, let's ask them to stop wasting the workers they already have. Audit the friction: How many minutes are lost to passwords, system access, frozen software, unreliable equipment, duplicate data entry, unnecessary approvals, outdated processes and waiting for IT? Give employees the tools and training to solve routine problems. Simplify workflows. Automate what should be automated. Replace systems that consistently create more work than they eliminate. Measure productive hours—not just headcount. Workforce development isn't only about preparing people to enter the workforce; it is also about helping organizations create workplaces where people can actually do the work they were hired to do.

Maybe we don't simply need more workers. Maybe we need to stop wasting the capacity of the workers we already have. We're going to be digging into this a little more this fall, and I'd love to hear from you.

💰Where Is It Going?💰

Now that you've looked at the big picture, let's follow the money.
For the next few days, write down every dollar you spend - even the $3 coffee, the drive-through stop, the Amazon purchase, or the subscription you forgot you had.

Don't change your spending yet. Just pay attention. On Monday, take a look back and ask yourself:
Where did my money go?

You may be surprised by what you discover. And remember—awareness isn't condemnation. It's the first step toward making different choices.

💜 THIS WEEK'S GOAL: Know your numbers. Next week, we'll decide what deserves your dollars.

We spend a lot of time asking whether employees are good enough for the workplace, but how often do we stop and ask whether the workplace is good enough for its employees?

Being a good employer is about much more than wages and benefits. It’s about trust, respect, communication, fairness, accountability, opportunity, and creating an environment where people can do good work without sacrificing their dignity. Take a few minutes and honestly complete this Good Employer Scorecard.

And remember - don’t score yourself based on what you think your employees would say. Score yourself based on what they would actually say if they knew their answers were completely safe and honest. The employer you believe you are and the employer your employees experience may be two very different things.

Want to learn more about managing your money? Visit WOW Fit for the King's page this month - there's a great money challenge going on!

You can't change what you don't know. This week is simply about taking an honest look at where your money is going. We're working toward gaining awareness about your money without any shame or judgment!

💰 WOW MONEY MATTERS: WEEK 1

This week, we're getting honest about our money. Money can be one of the heaviest things we carry - and sometimes the stress comes from simply not knowing where we stand. This week isn't about judgment, guilt, or beating yourself up over past decisions. It's about awareness.

Take a few minutes today and write down your monthly income and your regular expenses. Don't worry about changing anything yet. Just look at the numbers.

Remember: You cannot manage what you refuse to look at.
🙏 “The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.” — Proverbs 21:5

THIS WEEK'S GOAL: Know where you stand. Regardless of how you feel about your money (confident, stressed, uncertain) - let's just take a look at what's coming in....and what's going out.

If you need help with understanding more about this, just reach out to us! And check back in on Friday for your next step this week!
