Students, what an incredible year we have shared together! From the very first day of school to the last, you have worked hard, grown in so many ways, and made us proud each and every day. We have celebrated achievements, learned new things, made wonderful memories, and watched you shine both inside and outside the classroom.

As this school year comes to an end, we want to thank you for your dedication, kindness, and positive spirit that helped make this year so special. Whether it was through academics, performances, or simply being a great friend and classmate, each of you played an important part in making our school community stronger.

Now it is time to enjoy a well deserved summer break! We hope your summer is filled with fun, laughter, adventure, and time spent with family and friends. Most importantly, please stay safe, take care of yourselves, and make great memories along the way.

Where has the school year gone? Time flies when you’re learning, growing, and making memories! Today we celebrated our final Students of the Month by recognizing our April/May award winners. Congratulations to these Gorenflo strong students for their hard work, leadership, and kindness all year long. We are so proud of each of you!

Ms. Gates and Gorenflo CREATE are at it again! Students participated in an exciting and in-depth learning experience centered around the Artemis II Mission, following the journey of the four astronauts as they traveled around the Moon. Throughout the unit, students watched the launch, explored interviews with astronauts while in space, and followed the crew’s return to Earth, gaining a deeper understanding of modern space exploration and the advancements that continue to shape the future of NASA.

As part of the study, students also learned about Fred Haise, a Biloxi native and former student of Gorenflo Elementary School. To culminate the unit, students had the incredible opportunity to participate in a Zoom session with Mr. Haise, during which he shared stories from his experiences as an astronaut and answered thoughtful student-generated questions.

The Artemis II Mission connected meaningfully to Mr. Haise’s experience aboard the Apollo 13 mission, as both missions represent important milestones in the history of human space exploration. Through these real-world learning experiences, students were able to connect the past and present of space travel while developing a greater appreciation for exploration, perseverance, innovation, and scientific discovery.
