Big things are happening for our AmeriCorps team! 🤩 At the March 9 City Council meeting, Mayor Mike Nelson declared March 8–14 in Billings! Our amazing VISTAs—Jonah, Kamlack, Clark, Jenasea, and Melanie—took the floor to talk about their efforts supporting non-profits and finding new ways to tackle poverty in our community. We are so proud of the heart they put into their service every day! 💪✨

The next day, our Metro VISTA Project was off to Helena for ServeMontana Symposium! 🏔️ The week was packed with learning, making new connections, and plenty of fun. We feel so lucky to attend this amazing event each year. A huge thank you to for all the hard work they put into making it such a great experience for AmeriCorps members across our state!

🌱In memory of our stunning and beloved Nemo🌱

In 2018, Noemi Negron began a year of service as an AmeriCorps VISTA with Billings Parks and Recreation, and her impact continues to grow—literally—across our community.

Nemo was a passionate advocate for food security and equity. She helped launch innovative programs like South Side Sprouts container gardens and the Parkland Gleaning Project, expanding access to fresh fruits and vegetables in neighborhoods facing food insecurity. Through edible forests, fruit tree plantings in public parks, and low-maintenance garden models, Nemo helped ensure that healthy food could be free, local, and accessible to all.

Her work brought together more than 100 volunteers, built lasting partnerships, secured thousands of dollars in grant funding, and created tools and programs that Parks & Recreation and the community will continue to use for years to come.

Nemo believed in community, dignity, and the power of shared resources. We honor her legacy every time a neighbor harvests fruit from a park tree or finds nourishment where it was once out of reach. 💚

Thank you, Nemo. You are deeply missed and forever remembered.

VISTA Sammie Murphy has built critical capacity at Adaptive Performance Center-Billings this year!

We were honored to present a $7,500 grant from proceeds from the Food Truck Battle on the Yellowstone to Adaptive Performance Center-Billings, whose mission to empower Veterans truly inspires us.

Supporting organizations that strengthen our community and lift others up is at the heart of what we do—and APC does exactly that every single day.

We’re proud to support your work and grateful for the impact you make! 💪

Jenasea Hott’s VISTA project with Eagle Mount Billings is dedicated to increasing academic engagement for low-income youth with disabilities. We have some exciting news to share: Jenasea has obtained a $10,000 grant from the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation in support of Eagle Mount’s Adaptive Field Trips program! Adaptive Field Trips offer crucial opportunities for connection, community, and learning for at-risk youth. Children and young adults with disabilities, particularly those from low-income families, face a complex web of challenges that hinder their ability to thrive. These include limited access to inclusive, enriching out-of-school experiences; an increased risk of social isolation, emotional distress, and bullying; and heightened vulnerability to trauma and mental health concerns, including suicidal ideation - especially among youth with autism and intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD).

This grant will cover supplies, activity fees, and transportation costs for the Adaptive Field Trips, enabling Billings SD2 students to reap the lasting benefits of fulfilling recreational outings. Thank you for your service, Jenasea!
