Billings Central Catholic Alumni Spotlight this week on James Schmidt ’09! James went to Notre Dame after graduation, earning undergraduate degrees in math and philosophy, and went on to receive his PhD in mathematics from the University of Illinois. In 2024, James was selected as a Senior Congressional Innovation Fellow for TechCongress, one of an elite group of talented technologists helping to shape the future of tech policy in America. Perhaps even more impressive is the comment by former BCCHS math teacher Mel ‘MathWalrus’ Wahl, that James was the best math student he ever taught! Congratulations to recent Billings Central Catholic HS graduate Toby Stewart! Toby signed to play basketball at Dawson Community College!

Billings Central Catholic Alumni Spotlight! Shout out to Riley Corcoran ’07 on his recent induction into the Billings American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame! Riley, who also has the distinction of throwing the first pitch at Dehler Park, went 6-0 against the Royals as a pitcher for the Scarlets in 2007 and 2008. His career record with the Scarlets was 20-4, and he also spent two years as an assistant coach for the team. Riley now lives in Missoula with his wife McKell and their daughter Beckett, and, after graduating from Washington State University in 2011 with a degree in broadcast news and a minor in sports management, is now well-known as ‘The Voice of the Griz’. Another amazing aspect of having grades K-8 together on one campus at Saint Francis Catholic... SFC 4th grade students helping 1st graders with their research projects!

The Artemis III Crew has been announced! Earlier this year, Mrs. Cunningham's earth science students did some work as astronauts themselves! Students had to design and test a thermal protection system for the Artemis II Orion crew capsule. They were given limited supplies and had to use what they knew about heat transfer to design and test various models. Students were successful with the experiment, and they were also successful in not burning down the school!

Congratulations to recent Billings Central Catholic HS graduate Darcy Merchant Jr.! Darcy signed to play basketball for Casper College!

Billings Central Catholic Alumni Spotlight! Alger Tam '06 graduated from Academy of Art University in San Francisco, and now lives in Los Angeles working as a Visual Development Artist for the animation industry. Alger began his career as an intern with Disney before joining Sony Animation Studios to work on the Angry Birds franchise. His past films include The Garfield Movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, and most recently KPOP Demon Hunters which won an Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Alger is still currently with Sony Animation where he continues to help develop new animated films. When not at work, he enjoys traveling with his family and doing activities in the city with his wife Erin and daughter Arden. Billings Central Catholic High School incoming senior Paxton Prill is Gatorade Player of the Year for baseball!!! Along with incoming sophomore and superstar runner Addison Kegel, that makes two this year for Billings Central Catholic!
