Welcome back, BPS staff! πŸ’š

We kicked off the new school year by welcoming our incredible staff back, followed by an overview of MTSS from our Assistant Superintendent - setting the stage for a year focused on supporting every student, every day.

The buildings are full, the energy is back, and we’re ready to welcome students on Wednesday! βœοΈπŸŽπŸ“š

β˜” Rainy Days Ahead? Perfect Time to Dive Into Summer Reading & Math! πŸ“šπŸ”’

Don't let the wet weather stall the summer funβ€”or the summer learning! With rainy days on the forecast, it’s a great opportunity for our Billerica Public Schools students to cozy up indoors with a good book or tackle a quick math challenge.

Keeping up with summer reading and math practice helps prevent the "summer slide" and sets our kids up for a confidence boost when school starts back up in the fall.

Ditson School Student Council Making a Difference at School and in the Community
The Ditson School Student Council has had an incredible year demonstrating leadership, compassion, and a commitment to making a positive impact both within our school and throughout the community.

Recently, Student Council members partnered with the Billerica Food Pantry to organize a cereal drive to help support local families in need. Thanks to the generosity of our students, families, and staff, Ditson School collected and donated 100 boxes of cereal. As summer approaches and many children who typically receive meals at school are home more often, the need for food pantry resources increases. We are grateful to everyone who contributed and helped make this effort a success. The kindness and generosity shown by our school community truly reflect the caring spirit of Ditson School.

In addition to supporting the community, Student Council members have also been working to improve our school for current and future students. This spring, they presented a playground improvement proposal to district leaders and Mr. Bartlett. After brainstorming ideas, students identified several challenges with the current playground surface. They shared concerns that wood chips can make it difficult to run and play safely and that uneven ground around playground structures and swing areas can create barriers for some students.

The students proposed exploring the installation of turf and leveling pathways throughout the playground to help ensure that all students have safe and equitable access to play areas. Their presentation emphasized the importance of creating an inclusive environment where every child can participate and enjoy recess safely. Demonstrating their commitment to the project, Student Council members also offered to contribute $500 from this year's fundraising efforts toward the improvements.

We are incredibly proud of our Student Council members for using their voices to help others, advocate for positive change, and strengthen both our school and community. Whether collecting donations for local families or proposing improvements that benefit all students, they continue to exemplify what it means to be thoughtful leaders and active citizens.

Together, they are making a difference, one act of kindness and one great idea at a time.
