Good afternoon band family! I hope this finds you doing well and enjoying summer break!

With band camp fast approaching, I’m looking to find meals for our students during camp (July 28th-31st). If you are able to support the band by providing dinner that would be fantastic! If not, we are accepting donations for Gatorade and water to ensure the students are staying hydrated and healthy while working hard in the heat.

It’s almost the end of SR DBC week! Everyone is having a great time! We have one more day of camp and then final concerts on Saturday.

Edit: I missed Clara Gunther! She also tried out and made 3rd band 3rd chair!

I am so dad gum proud of all these students! It is the first day of Destination Band Camp (JR week) and the students auditioned into their bands for the week. Every single student showed out and did their absolute best. There are over 1,000 students at this camp and our students are placing in the top groups. A special shout to to Alexea Allgood for making 1st band, and Myka Gregory for making 2nd band. Let me say that again. Alexea and Myka beat over 120 students on their instrument from around the state, and some campers from Florida! It's going to be a great week here at DBC!

Meet your new band director!

Matthew Holbrook is a euphoniumist, conductor and educator from Orlando, FL. He holds a degree in music education from the University of Central Arkansas and is a 15 year student of Dr. Gail Robertson. Mr. Holbrook is passionate about student outcomes, building relationships, and having fun while being successful. Outside the classroom, Mr. Holbrook enjoys spending time with his wife doing just about anything, hunting, fishing, and playing golf!

Congratulations two BOTH students for standing out at BHS. It is somewhat uncommon to see band students in this sort of spotlight. But, to have two of our band students in the “who’s who” spotlight is amazing!

It’s concert time! This week the BHS Choir kicks off their concert. Band will take the stage next week. All concerts will have free admission.

Bigelow Percussion alongside the UALR Percussion Ensemble, UALR Chamber Singers!

The Bigelow Percussion Ensemble has been traveling around central Arkansas the past few weekends performing at various percussion festivals!

A few weeks ago we performed at the 25th annual UCA Percussion Festival alongside 9 other schools. Mr. Mellick also performed a brand new piece of music honoring Dr. Blake Tyson, the organizer of the festival.

This weekend we traveled to UALR for their 5th annual Day of Percussion. Ben was selected to play a solo as part of the festival, and then at the end members got to be a part of the final performance. (Check out the video to be posted next!)

We will have our final performance at home at BHS May 7th at 6:30pm!
