Little Red Wagon Preschool

Little Red Wagon Preschool "We don't stop playing because we grow old... we grow old because we stop playing. " We become a family and each holds a special place in my heart!

I have my Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education and have been working with young children for 30 years. There is nothing I would rather do and I feel so blessed to be able to spend my days teaching and learning with the young children in my program. Below is information on my program to help you understand and decide if this is the program for you! Little Red Wagon Preschool

3 & 4 Year Old Prog

ram
Children must be 3 years old by September 10th. Children must have 1 more year before moving into Kindergarten. The goals of this program are:
• Increase attention span through games, art, and focused learning time. In the beginning, we will do short activities, increasing as the year goes on.
• Following directions – each day, kids will learn to follow simple directions, such as taking out art supplies, lining up, picking up toys, and table activities.
• Lining up – kids will practice lining up, standing with hands & feet to themselves, & moving to the next activity.
• Group play – Playing in a group is a skill kids must learn. Sharing, working together, including friends and following rules of play is a skill that is learned by doing. Play is an important learning activity!
• Manners and respect – Each day, throughout the morning, we are always working on using our manners, being respectful, and conflict resolution. We encourage, we model, and we celebrate these positive things. Language is given to help children express their needs and boundaries.
• Learn to be confident and secure without Mom and Dad.

4 & 5 Year Old Preschool Program
Children must be 4 years old by September 10th and moving into Kindergarten the following fall. The goals of this program are:
• Begin working on identifying letters of the alphabet (by sight and sound)
• Begin working on identifying numbers and understanding the value
• Continue working on increasing attention span
• Continue working with a group following directions
• Washing hands and using the bathroom independently
• Conflict resolution
• Writing letters and numbers, including name
• Maintaining personal items
• Participating in classroom activities
• Fine motor skills
• Large motor skills
• Being confident and secure without parents present

Our overall goal is to help children get ready for Kindergarten. This starts by learning how to be in a classroom. Children will learn appropriate skills that get them ready for the next stage of learning and be successful. Activities are about the process NOT the end result! You may wonder what your child is bringing home or why we do something (and don't be afraid to ask!)....it may not look the way you think it should look....but while creating, your child was learning to express themselves, try new things, work with different materials in different ways, and having a hands on experience. All of these things help kids apply what they are learning to their own lives! Our hope is that every children that leaves our program, feeling confident, secure, cared for, and ready for their jump into “big school”. Please let us know if you have any concerns or questions! We want this to be as positive of an experience for you as it is for your children!

Screenings are now being scheduled! This isn't just for 4-year-olds.....5-year-olds that have not started kindergarten can also enter this program if they qualify with a screening! This is a great opportunity for kids to get a year of additional support and learning to help them start school ready and continue to love learning! Kids who start kindergarten before they are ready and struggle soon dislike school, and it can set the tone for future learning!

It's been a crazy morning and we had a small group (that got smaller as the morning went on). In circle time we read Love Monster, reviewed our letters, and had sharing! We also practiced writing our letter Ll, our name, and did our scholastic MyBig World activity! We hurried through these so that kiddos leaving early got them finished and we finished just in time! Stay safe and warm this weekend!

Happy Thursday! It's finally warmed up and we got a break from the cold and snow! In circle time we read Happy Valentine's Day, Mouse, danced to our Valentine's songs and had sharing! After snack we decided to put all of the snow to good use, so we used eye-droppers and colored water to paint! This activity went on for almost 20 minutes! They had a great time! Have a good weekend and I'll see you next week!

Happy Wednesday! In circle time we reviewed our letters, read Love Is My Favorite Thing, and danced to our Valentine's songs. In art we made ladybugs. At snack we celebrated Charlotte's half-birthday. For centers today students used flashlights to find the hidden Ll's, wrote their letters in the LCD screens, sorted counting bears, and used colored water and eye-droppers to color the snow! Have a great day and stay warm! Please watch here for any future closers. With the snow and cold, many families are choosing to stay home (which is totally fine), so if there is only 1-2 kiddos, it's not worth being open. To keep everyone safe, I'll watch the weather and close if need be!

Happy Tuesday! In circle time we read The Goodnight Train and danced to our transportation songs. After some snack and a little playtime we made hot air balloons. This is a great fine motor practice because they have to glue one piece of tissue paper at a time. You'll notice some don't have a lot, but getting one piece at a time is challenging! They did great! Have a great day and I'll see you Thursday!
