April Floral of the Month ✨🎭

This month was a double whammy—our Floral of the Month arrangements also got to shine as prom centerpieces! ❤️🖤💛

With a “Mystery Masquerade” theme, we designed round centerpieces featuring 10 red roses, topped with a gold mask to tie everything together. My practicum students had fun creating these arrangements and bringing the vision to life, all while growing more confident in their vase arrangement designing skills.

It made it even more special getting to see them on display at prom while everyone had such a fun night. I’m so glad we could add a personalized touch to make the evening even more memorable! ✨💃

I just have to brag on my Horticulture Science students for a minute… 💚

This semester, these kids have put in some serious work in the greenhouse. We planted 1,368 plugs (yes, I counted… and yes, I questioned that decision 😂) and more vegetable seeds than we could keep up with!

They’ve learned how to propagate from cuttings like pros—both hydroponically and directly in soil using rooting hormone. They’ve spent weeks pruning, fertilizing, and learning what it really takes to care for plants.

And it hasn’t all been easy… we went to war with aphids and learned real quick what to do (and what not to do!) when it comes to greenhouse pests! 🐜

Through it all, these students showed up, worked hard, and truly worked as a team to grow some BEAUTIFULLY full plants. I am beyond proud of them! 💚

Our greenhouse is officially overflowing and ready for our Annual Plant Sale this coming weekend!!🌸🌱

What a week for Big Sandy Blooms! 🌸❤️

Our annual Valentine’s Day sale was a HUGE success! Out of 200 flower grams available, students sold all but 13. Deliveries went out Thursday spreading smiles all across campus!

My Floral Design Practicum girls created 30 beautiful half-dozen rose arrangements for both our Floral of the Month subscribers and members of the community. In total, over 500 flowers entered and exited my classroom this week!

It was busy. It was a little crazy. But it was absolutely worth it.

I couldn’t be more proud of the hard work, talent, and dedication shown by my students in the Plant Science Pathway at Big Sandy High School. None of this would be possible without them.

Thank you to everyone who supported our students and made this week such a success!

🩵January FOM Arrangement🩵

This design featured an asymmetrical style, making it a more advanced challenge—especially since the vase was non-gathering, which requires extra skill and precision.

Students learned how to use waterproof floral tape to create a grid, a professional technique that helps guide flower placement and adds structure to the design.✨

I absolutely love how this funky, modern arrangement turned out, and we hope our Floral of the month subscribers loved it just as much! Thank you for supporting our program and our talented students. 💐💛
