What does mean to you?
The next meeting of the new First Gen Student Organization will be in UC 211 on Tuesday, January 17th. Please join us if you’re interested. The group still needs a secretary, and needs members so that they can get started on initiatives to help build community with and support First Gen students across campus. Bring a friend if you want. :)
FIRST GEN FACT: Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor is a first-generation college student, a group that includes such famous figures as Senator Elizabeth Warren, First Lady Michelle Obama, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz. It has been estimated that first-generation students comprise between 15% and 40% of all college students in the United States (Davis, 2010; Nuñez & Cuccaro-Alamin, 1998).

Would you like to support First Generation Students? If you answered yes, (or no, haha) welcome! We are the First Gen RSO on Ferris State's campus. We have worked hard to start this lovely organization and cannot wait for its expansion, with your help! The advocacy, support, awareness building, and gap we are filling on this campus is immense. A first generation college student is someone whose parent hasn't completed a bachelor's degree. You don't have to be a first generation student to join, as long as you're interested in helping to support first generation students!
