Happy California Indian/Native American Day 2026!
Enjoy your time celebrating in your communities and with families. Our group artists are celebrating on multiple fronts today, and wish everyone safe travels and great events.
Our artist Madison Dusseau helped open up the Mammoth Trail Fest with the land acknowledgement and words and we are happy to share free registration to our local tribal families for the annual Woollyy 1k Fun Run at Mammoth Village. Scan the QR Code on the flyer.
Director Sage Andrew Romero is at the Colorado River Indian Tribe Annual NatiVision Film Festival, screening and sharing his animation, Kalle Monster from the Sea, a collaboration with the Amah Mutsun people!
Or other artists are enjoying our local Pabanamanina Pow Wow in Bishop and some are at other events in the state!

Thank you again Inyo Council for the Arts for having Akamya Culture Group kick off Sunday morning with our cultural presentation.

Manahubu, ta-ah, Ahee'hee', thank you 100 WOMEN WHO CARE EASTERN SIERRA!
Today, they came to the studio and presennted AkaMya Culture Group with the official giant check!
We truly appreciate and are honored by this donation. With this support, we can continue our ongoing classes, develop our outreach and continue to take part in community events while supporting our artists and families! Thank you all again and big shout out to Jeanne Walter for nominating us to be considered!
If you don't know, here is the story of 100 WOMEN WHO CARE:
In November 2006, the inspiring Karen Dunigan of Jackson, Michigan, launched '100 WOMEN WHO CARE.' Her genius idea? Gather 100 passionate women and, in just one hour, make a massive impact. At their inaugural meeting, each member penned a $100 check, amassing a staggering $10,000—enough to provide 300 baby cribs for a local charity. Today, this spark of an idea has ignited a movement, with the group boasting over 200 members and inspiring chapters worldwide, all united under one mission.

Manahu, we at AkaMya hereby request that any collaborating organizations, tribes, artists, media outlets, news organizations, volunteers and participants do not use AI (Artificial Intelligence) generated art, flyers, social media posts, memes, audio, video, music or multimedia when working with us or in partnership. No AkaMya group/artists images, video, audio, recordings, art and multimedia may be used to generate or train AI content.
AkaMya Culture Group is a Native American/Indigenous owned and operated nonprofit organization which is also a grassroots collective of artists, families and community members.
We have a responsibility to protect our land, resources and people from these practices which contribute to the extractive Data Centers. These data processing facilities are being built at alarming rates, and many are on federal tribal lands. These centers extract natural water sources, make waste water, produce constant impactful noise pollution, disrupt natural habitats, and generate heat at unprecedented rates.
We ask all, to stand in solidarity against the development of these data centers, the harm and damage they perpetuate on our native/indigenous communities and to not contribute, nor support the usage of AI generated art.
