Youth in grades 7+ are invited to join us for 4‑H Camera Camp, Oct. 15–16 at Camp Eden Wood in Eden Prairie! Participants will spend two days building skills in photography basics, lighting, special effects, and drone photography. They’ll get hands‑on practice supported by experienced photographers, while also learning about careers in the field. Cost is $50 and includes lodging, meals, snacks, and materials. Space is limited. Eighteen participants from 16 Minnesota counties joined the YELLO major session “Photography Leadership Studio: Team Up and Tell a Story” this June, led by 4‑H staff member Cora Rost. Through hands‑on activities, youth explored how leadership shows up in visual storytelling as they reviewed photography basics, teamed up to design, stage, and edit their own “inside the box” style photo, and made group decisions to bring a shared creative vision to life. Along the way, they strengthened real‑world skills that prepare them for work and life: teamwork & communication through planning and staging, decision‑making & responsibility through role‑sharing and time management, creativity & critical thinking while designing a story‑driven scene, digital literacy by editing and enhancing their work, and leadership awareness as they explored how identity and values show up in visual storytelling. Participants also toured the film photography lab and learned about photography opportunities at the University of Minnesota with Professor Sarah Sampedro.

Haven't had time to take pictures at a softball/baseball game, track meet, dance competition, or at the park? Minnesota 4-H Photography has great news! The committee has decided to extend the deadline of the "Action" Photo Challenge to April 30.

Minnesota 4-H Photography is excited to offer a statewide photography challenge to youth in grades K-13. In the "Action" 4-H photo challenge, youth are encouraged to take action shots that capture the thrill, excitement and energy of fast-paced moments. Youth should select one photo and write 1-2 sentences stating why it’s special to them. Submit one (1) image (with no or minimal editing) and your statement explaining why the chosen photo is important in one email to [email protected] by 11:59 p.m. on April 30.
