🦉💙 Welcome to the Nest! 💙🦉

This morning, Mrs. Herndon and the GSES PTA were up bright and early assembling our “New Owl in the Nest” yard signs, getting everything ready to welcome our newest Owl families!

Later today, our PTA volunteers will be out delivering these special signs to homes throughout our community. We hope they’re a fun surprise and a warm reminder that you are already part of the GSES family.

At GSES, we believe every family deserves to feel welcomed from day one, and we’re so excited to kick off another incredible school year together.

If you see one of our “New Owl in the Nest” signs around town today, give them a honk, wave, or drop a 🦉 in the comments to help us welcome our newest Owls!

** Please note: We have nearly 70 New Owl in the Nest signs to deliver this weekend, so our volunteers will be making deliveries throughout today and possibly tomorrow.

Welcome, Mrs. Katie Whitt! Huntsville City Schools is excited to welcome Mrs. Katie Whitt as our new Assistant Principal at Goldsmith-Shiffman Elementary. Mrs. Whitt joins our team after serving as a District Math Specialist, bringing a wealth of experience in instructional leadership, curriculum, and student achievement. Mrs. Whitt holds an Instructional Leadership Certification from Samford University, as well as a Master of Arts and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from The University of Alabama. We are thrilled to welcome Mrs. Whitt to the Owl family and look forward to the positive impact she will make at Goldsmith-Shiffman Elementary.

You will get your child's teacher information at Popsicles with the Principal!

If your PowerSchool registration is not complete, your child will not receive a postcard or be assigned to a homeroom class.

Hope you are all enjoying your summer! Here are some important dates to put on your calendar as we start preparing for our new school year!

Thursday, July 23 - New Family Orientation - 5:00 PM - GSES Cafeteria
Thursday, July 23 - Popsicles with the Principal and Teacher Assignment Cards - 6:00 PM - GSES Cafeteria
Monday, July 27 - Teacher Assignment Cards late pickup - 7:30 AM - 8:00 AM - Front of GSES
Tuesday, August 4 - Meet the Teacher appointments
Wednesday, August 5 - First day of school!
Kindergartners will have staggered start dates of August 5 and 6.
Students with last names A-L will attend on Wed., Aug. 5
Students with last names M-Z will attend on Thurs., Aug. 6.
ALL Kindergarten students will attend GSES on Friday, Aug. 7

Your time, dedication, and willingness to water, w**d, and help our learning space thrive are making a lasting difference. Because of your support, our students will return to a healthy, vibrant habitat that's ready for exploration, discovery, and hands-on learning.
