Big Bear Lake BeachCats Dedicated to increasing interest in catamaran sailing on Big Bear Lake, located about 2.5 hours from L.A. or San Diego. Lake elevation is 6,700 feet.

Big Bear BeachCats is a catamaran club. Twelve years ago, Pete Begel brought his stock of Prindle catamarans and parts to Big Bear Lake. With over 60 years of experience, if it has a sail, Pete has sailed it. He arranged for 150 yards of shoreline to beach mostly Prindles, but Hobie, Nacra, and even Tornados have spent the summer. Typically, boats are brought to the beach late May (wet suits a mu

st) and boats must be off the lake by late October. There are two race courses every weekend. Most sailors report an average of 15 easy in sailing days. In 2018, a few Prindle 16's will be available for sailing instruction.
