ARTIST TALKS AT FRINGE

What happens when an artist follows a question and sees where it leads?
This evening, we’re taking a look beyond the finished work and digging into the creative process and research inquiry within the studio. Please join us for a 30-minute conversation with participating artists and an arts administrator, moderated by Art of Biddeford Program Director Larry Weyand.

We’ll talk about what goes on behind the works presented at Fringe Fest, from how artists develop an idea to what happens once they start working with materials and experimenting in the studio. We’ll get into what it means to make “fringe” art in a world still largely dominated by the traditional “white cube” and what it’s actually like to make and present art in Biddeford.

We’ll also talk about the realities of being a practicing artist, including the freedom and possibility that comes with creative work, as well as some of the hurdles that come with making a career around art.

- Sacred Profane, second floor
- Today, Friday, August 14
- 8:00–8:30 PM

Artist talks sponsored by Pizza by Alex.

FRINGE MAP IS HERE!

TODAY IS THE DAY!

Fringe Fest takes over downtown Biddeford tonight with art, music, performance, curious creations, and plenty of unexpected discoveries.

Here’s your guide to the festival, with all the artists, performances, live music, vendors, Pie Luck, Artist Talks, community partners, and Fringe happenings around downtown.

And remember, Fringe goes beyond Washington Street! Be sure to make your way to The Art Certificate Program and Flourish for even more to discover.

You can save the map to your phone, or pick up a physical copy when you arrive. We’ll also have wayfinding throughout the festival to help you find your way.

But don’t feel like you have to follow the map perfectly. Wander around, follow the music, peek into the spaces along the way, and see what catches your eye.

You never know what you’ll find around the next corner.

FRINGE IS SPILLING OUT INTO DOWNTOWN!

Think you’ve found all the Fringe? Think again.

Fringe may be centered on Washington Street, but our arts community partners are helping us spread the fun throughout downtown Biddeford. There are a couple of special stops you won’t want to miss:

📍 148 Main Street
The Art Certificate Program is bringing some seriously cool art to the space, along with Cabinet of Curiosities-inspired film projections. Step inside, take a look around, and see what you discover.

📍 140 Main Street
Flourish is joining Fringe with a performance by Hannah Judson. Stop in and catch the performance while you explore another part of Biddeford’s creative community.

So don’t just stick to the main street. Wander a little. Peek inside. Turn a corner. Follow your curiosity. You never know what you might find.

- Friday, August 14
- Washington Street + 140 & 148 Main Street
- Fringe Fest: A Cabinet of Curiosities

We’re so excited to have our arts community partners as part of Fringe and to see the festival spilling into more corners of downtown.

Come make your own little curiosity!

Artist Ann Thompson of BikePartArtME is bringing a tiny world of curiosities to Fringe Fest, and she wants you to make one of your own.

Stop by and create a pop-up curiosity box of your very own. The only rule? Your curiosity has to fit inside a standard small matchbox.

What strange, wonderful, mysterious, or completely unexpected thing would you put inside?

Come make it, explore Ann’s work, and add your own tiny curiosity to the Cabinet.

- Friday, August 14
- Washington Street, Biddeford
- 6:00–8:30 PM
- Free and Open to All

Bring your imagination. We’ll provide the tiny cabinet.

Get ready for something a little unexpected.

TriSarahProps is a playful, clown-esque flow artist who combines hoop manipulation, movement, performance, and a healthy dose of theatrical weirdness. With colorful costumes, glowing props, and some seriously impressive coordination, their performances feel part circus, part character act, and part beautifully chaotic fever dream.

At Fringe Fest, TriSarahProps will be bringing their glowing hoops and playful energy to our Cabinet of Curiosities, creating one of those wonderfully strange moments you don't quite expect to find on Washington Street.

It's colorful. It's physical. It's funny. It's mesmerizing. And it is very, very Fringe.

Come catch TriSarahProps in action.

We want Fringe to be a welcoming, accessible event for as many people as possible.

A few things to know about accessibility at Fringe:

- Accessible parking is available nearby.

- The festival takes place along Washington Street, with some areas of pavement and street surfaces that may be uneven.

- Seating will be available throughout the festival area for anyone who needs to take a break.

- Service animals are welcome.

- If you have an accessibility question or need an accommodation, please reach out to us before the festival and we'll do our best to help.

- If you need a quieter place to take a break during the festival, please contact us in advance and we'll do our best to accommodate you.

Sensory considerations: Fringe is a lively street festival with amplified music, including some louder electronic performances. One performance will also feature spinning lights/visual effects. If you are sensitive to sound, crowds, or flashing/moving lights, please keep this in mind when planning your visit.

We know accessibility looks different for everyone, and we're always learning. If there's something that would make Fringe more comfortable or accessible for you, please let us know.
