I’ve failed my wife more than once, and have not lived up to my own standard, let alone God’s. But if there’s one thing I’ve tried to do over the years, it’s study her.

I’ve worked hard to know what she loves, what overwhelms her, what helps her thrive, how her story has shaped her, and how I can lead and love her in ways that actually serve her. That’s what I believe Peter meant when he told husbands to live with their wives in an understanding way.

Men, you study sports, business, and hobbies, but have you studied your wife with the same passion? If she’s worth marrying, she’s worth understanding.

And to the women reading this…many of you have spent years feeling misunderstood. The truth is, you can sometimes be hard to understand. Sadly, I’ve come to realize that knowing about my wife doesn’t guarantee that I’ll love her well. But refusing to know her almost guarantees I won’t.
