Kids Ocean Day 2025 canceled. 😢
Dear Valued Supporters and Volunteers,
It is with great regret and sadness to inform you that Kids Ocean Day on May 22, 2025 at Dockweiler State Beach in Los Angeles is cancelled this year due to residual pollution from the Pacific Palisades fire runoff.
Please be assured that we are still very much available to visit your school with our assembly program. Please contact us to set up a time.
Our top priority is the safety and well being of our children, volunteers, teachers and community. After careful consideration and consultation with many experts, we have determined that it is necessary to cancel the beach event due to reports of potentially harmful contaminants flowing into the ocean and washing up on the beaches. Additionally, seals and other marine life are coming up on the beach loaded with toxin from the extraordinary algae blooms that are in the ocean.
We are in the business of getting the children to love and protect the beach. As all of you already know, the children spend some of their time digging deep in the sand, playing in the sand, lunching on the sand and sitting in the sand for the aerial art fly-over. Our main purpose is to get the kids to fall in love with the beach. We want the sand to be 100% safe.
We know many of you were looking forward to participating at Kids Ocean Day and we appreciate your understanding and flexibility during this challenging time. We will keep you updated on any future opportunities to volunteer with us, and hope to see you back at the beach for a bigger and better Kids Ocean Day 2026!
In the meantime, we are committed to continuing our outreach at the schools and educating students about the importance of caring for our beaches and ocean.
Think of this as giving the beach and ocean a year to heal.
