Tiana D. Washington created S.O.U.L.T.R.E.E. LIVING in the winter of 2009. Washington first saw recycle bins at her grandmother’s home.

The desire to be more environmentally conscious was something fostered by Washington’s late grandmother over a decade ago. She recalls taking notice of the infamous recycle symbols back in 1995 as a sophomore in high school. It was a new campaign that was most visible in upper-class neighbor hoods in Iowa.
