The Classical Difference!
Pictured are just a few of the results from this comparitive study.
You can find the full report at:

“2018-19 comparative study of 24-42 year old alumni from public, secular private, Catholic, evangelical Christian, religious homeschool, and ACCS (classical Christian) schools, on topics of life-choices, preparation, attitudes, values, opinions, and practices.
This research seems to confirm what history has repeatedly demonstrated—classical Christian education can influence the course of a home, a community, or a nation.”

NCCA strives to instruct the heads, hearts AND hands of our students!
Last week the 5th and 6th grade spent a morning bringing their history studies to life.
The students dressed up as 1700s Americans and experienced various parts of colonial life. They created silhouette art, made and ate Johnny cakes, dipped candles, performed a readers theater skit based on events that led to the War for Independence, wrote with quill pens and ink, and learned about weapons and war strategies!

Happy Thanksgiving from New City Classical Academy!
🍂🕯️
Last Friday our student body, staff, and board were blessed to celebrate Thanksgiving together at our annual Thanksgiving Feast. Grammar students sang history songs and secondary student, David, recited Washington’s Thanksgiving Proclamation of 1789, of which there is an excerpt below.
Thanksgiving proclamation of 1789 by President George Washington:
“Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be— That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks—for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation—for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his Providence which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war—for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed—for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted—for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.”

We’re excited to announce that Alex Graupmann has joined New City Classical Academy as the NCCA Headmaster, effective as of second quarter. A native of the Quad Cities, Mr. Graupmann received Christian education throughout most academic pursuits, receiving degrees in Accounting/Finance and a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership. After spending over a decade on various teams within Deere and teaching Rhetoric and Thesis this academic year, he’s stepping full-time into NCCA.
Mr. Graupmann is married to Jess and is raising several future Dragon Slayers (Evangeline, Aslan, Eden pictured to the left, plus one on the way). He’s also served as an elder at Sacred City Church since early 2024 and a member of the NCCA Board for over a year. As you are able, please welcome him to the new role!

Mrs. Knoer || Kindergarten
Kindergarten students are joyfully stepping into the culture of our classroom and are growing daily as ambassadors of Christ towards one another, utilizing our exordiums and classroom expectations. 📣A few favorites are: “When you think you can’t do it, try anyway!”, “leave it better than you found it” & “Do all things without complaining or disputing”. 📣
👏🏼 There is a deep enjoyment of one another & their learner identities that has flourished into a love and excitement of being at school! Praise be to God! ✨
Their memory verse this week is:
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 ESV

Mrs. Sievers || 1st-2nd grade
“We are in the middle of week number nine of the school year, and consistency has helped cultivate an excitement for reading 📖. In first and second grade we begin our week by trading our “library books”. In the early weeks, they would trade their books and zip up their pouches without much excitement to dig into their selections. We have been working at building our independent reading muscles 💪🏼. Nine weeks later, our library time has been extended because they cannot wait to dig in!
Sometimes they choose a book that is a little “too easy” and sometimes they choose a book that is beyond their current ability. This is a time of our day that isn’t about learning to read, but rather learning to love books and to love a great story. Often times, they choose a book they’ve already read, that they know they enjoy, and that’s okay.
As C.S. Lewis said “We do not enjoy a story fully at it’s first reading.” 📚”

One of our many goals at NCCA is to train our students’ hands as well as their head and heart. We desire to do this in a particular way, convinced that God made men and woman wonderfully different with different purposes. The phrase “common arts” is to explain “skills that provide basic, embodied human needs through the creation of artifacts or the provision of service.*”
Common Arts lessons earlier this month included changing bike tires, cooking, and calligraphy. Thank you to all of our volunteer teachers for investing in our Dragon Slayers!
