OUR PROGRAM: We offer classes for 2 year olds (must be two by October 1) through 4 year olds, and 5 year olds who are not going to kindergarten yet. We offer 1 or 2 days for two year olds, 2, 3, 4 or 5 days for three year olds, and 3, 4, or 5 days for four year olds. We are a program inclusive of children of all faiths and abilities. Our play-based curriculum focuses on the whole child and encour
ages the concept of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math), while allowing for large motor play on our playground and in our gym. We have a chapel lesson once a month, and music and creative movement classes twice a month for all age levels. Licensed by the State of Pennsylvania's Department of Public Welfare, the preschool offers an extended program for children ages 3 and 4. As a result of this licensing, all teachers are certified in CPR, First Aid, and Fire Safety Training yearly. The First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem also has a Safe Church policy in place, which mandates that a minimum of two adults must be present with all children and youth at all times. OUR STAFF: The teachers at First Presbyterian Preschool have a collective 100+ years of experience working with young children. They hold degrees in either Elementary or Early Childhood Education and participate in continuing education yearly. Our preschool is a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and four of our teachers attend the national conference every year for additional training. OUR FACILITIES: We offer bright, cheery rooms with ample natural light. Our windows are low enough for children to see outside. Each room has child-sized furnishings and restrooms. We have a gym for indoor play and a beautiful fenced in playground with a new climbing structure to promote large muscle development. We are a secure facility. Registered families receive key card access to enter the locked children’s center. All classroom doors are locked from the outside. Only staff hold keys to the classrooms. EXTENDED CARE: Our Extended Care program is an extension of the preschool day. It is open for early morning care from 7:00 am until 9:00 am and provides an optional breakfast at no additional cost. It re-opens at 11:45 am until 6:00 pm, with lunch at 12:00. Children joining us for "Lunch Bunch" bring their own lunch with them to school. The Extended Care program is also play-based, with time for circle time, music and movement, art, large motor time on the playground and gym, and several special opportunities in the month for activities like cookie baking, visiting our older friends at Kirkland Village, special lunches, and holiday fun.
