Gateway School of the Lehigh Valley

Hello everyone, Mrs. Flax here. Once again I must notify you of another death in the Gateway School Family. Many of you will remember Carolyn Hoffman (daughter of Mrs. Hoffman, our Art teacher for many, many years). Carolyn passed away late Thursday night, March 2, 2023. She was 48 years old. Carolyn was a student at Gateway at our Locust St. address and our Bridlepath Rd. address. She was also a frequent visitor with her mother on Art days. She was a wonderful young woman who loved art, life, and the color purple, little children and babies, and was an ardent fan of Donny Osmund and Harry Styles. She will be greatly missed. Her funeral will be held at Congregation Keneseth Israel in Allentown, PA tomorrow, Sunday, March 5 at 1:00 pm. If you are unable to attend, please leave a note for Carolyn's parents Dr. Arthur and Mrs. Barbara Hoffman at the Gateway School site or at Barbara Hoffman's fb page. Here is the second last site of the former Gateway School of the Lehigh Valley. Thank you to the photographer who snapped this today....our very own...Barry Saturen!!! Who, I might add, now lives around the corner from our school that he once attended. It looks sooo different now (new windows, red brick painted white, and no Groman's Bakery downstairs) but still evokes a myriad of memories!!!

It is easy to get caught up in daily life to the point where we neglect to communicate with our friends and family....so I am taking the time now (early) to extend heartfelt wishes to everyone in our Gateway Family (both here and gone) for a healthy, safe, and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Be well!! I miss you all!!

I am sad to share the following: Gateway has lost another member of our family. For those of you who were enrolled during the school years 1999-2000 and 2000-2001, you probably remember Leigh "Dizzy" Yarnall. She finished her junior and senior years with us and graduated in June 2001. I read in today's Morning Call that Leigh died on December 8 at Lehigh Valley Hospital after a courageous battle with a very rare salivary cancer. Leigh leaves behind her husband of 18 years, Derrik Adduce; her sister, Anna (and her husband); her Parents; Grandmothers, Nieces, a Nephew, and many Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. Leigh was quite a character, full of life, and with a great sense of humor. We were happy to have had her as part of our School Family. May her memory forever be a blessing.
