Solar eclipse tips from Lehigh University astronomer A Lehigh University astronomer offers tips for watching the total solar eclipse on Monday, August 21.
08/20/2017
There will be a solar eclipse viewing activity on Monday afternoon August 21. It will be on the south (uphill) side of Lewis Lab, on the patio outside of the Oberkotter Auditorium (LL270). Lehigh Physics Professors Gary DeLeo and Joshua Pepper will have two telescopes with solar filters that people can use to view the eclipse as it happens, and will have a small number of eclipse glasses that people can borrow. The partial eclipse will start here at 1:20pm, will reach maximum around 2:43, and will end at 4:00. The telescopes and glasses will be available from the beginning and through maximum coverage, until at least 3:15. All members of the Lehigh community are invited to come by and see the eclipse in action.
Safety notice: Never watch an eclipse without proper eye protection! See https://eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety for information about safely viewing an eclipse.
