Swain Campus eighth-graders kicked off the year at Camp Oneka, pairing high-energy outdoor activities with meaningful personal development.

Scaling the rock wall and navigating paddleboards helped students push past their comfort zones, while writing goal-setting letters to their future selves grounded their focus for the upcoming school year.

They returned with sharper communication skills, deeper peer relationships, and the drive needed to take ownership of their learning in their final year of middle school.

This summer, Merle-Smith Campus History teacher and Head of Sustainability Mrs. Katie Burd traveled to Norway as a recipient of the Maron Travel/Study Grant, exploring sustainability through agriculture, education, and public policy.

From working on a regenerative farm and visiting local schools to learning how Norway incorporates transparency, sustainability, and human rights into decision-making, the experience provided valuable insights that she will bring back to her Government and Human Rights classes and Green Team initiatives at Moravian Academy.
