What does the dot and the dash mean in the notation? I’m struggling to figure out exactly what it means since drum notation is never the same . This Groove Essentials Jazz 19 fast.

I meant to post this yesterday but didn’t get to it. 20 years ago I dropped out of high school searching for a fair and honest education I deserved. I left my private instructor and twenty years ago yesterday I took my first lesson with the infamous Tommy Igoe . These lessons changed my life not only as a drummer, but a musician and a teacher. I’m honored to say I studied with Tommy from ‘05 to ‘09.

This was the day I drove 81 year old Buddy Deppenschmidt 4 hours one way to meet and discuss Their lesson with legendary teacher and mentor, Joe morello. They didn’t realize but they would pass each other in Joe’s waiting room in the 1970’s. I got to stand by, listen, and witness two legends talk about their journey and passion. This day will be one of my best in my journey of passion.

Don’t forget your mentors…. If you allow them, they’ll continue to teach us long after they’re gone. I miss you both.
