Grade 8 students ended the year by exploring local history in person. Led by Middle School History Teacher Travis Wooden, the boys documented their visits before blending their research and creativity into a District of Stories mural in the Middle School.

They wrote: The purpose of this mural is to explore the historical sites in Washington D.C. that connect to what we learned throughout the year. The project shows us how D.C. reflects the history of the United States. It gave us a chance to explore and learn more about our history.

Landon proudly hosted its inaugural Honor Band for Middle School students, thanks to Director of Bands Leah Precott. She welcomed 75 gifted musicians from 17 schools. The group spent the day rehearsing and finished with a performance to showcase their talent and passion for music. We can’t wait for the next one!

That’s a wrap on our sixth annual Landon Curriculum and Pedagogy Week!

More than 80 faculty members used the week to continue their own education and start the summer prepping for the next school year. The week allows time for teachers to collaborate and plan while developing and aligning curriculum. Faculty-led sessions covered topics from supporting new students and coaching skills, to designing assignments for belonging, and the emotional effects of cello music. We even had our first-ever student presentation.

Grade 5 STEM challenge: using only spaghetti and glue, build the lightest bridge that can hold the most weight. To prepare for the competition, boys applied what they learned about truss design, compression, and tension. Looks like the testing phase was the best part!
Ā
Congrats to Holden M. and Thatcher F. for securing first place. Their bridge held more than 50 pounds!
