HOO We Are 🦉 Say hello to Ms. Amber, our Lead Teacher for Grades 6 & 7!

Ms. Amber is entering her 9th year in education. She has taught special education in a variety of schools and settings and is excited to have joined the Diener community this year! What she loves most about Diener is the welcoming spirit of our students. She’s already noticed how often students help each other and invite others to join them ❤️

When she’s not teaching, you can find her scrapbooking, reading, volunteering in the DC community, or even playing the violin or ukulele! 🎻🎶

We’re so happy to have you at Diener, Ms. Amber!

Every year, our elementary students pair up with the 5th graders at for a buddy program filled with games, crafts, and laughter. Once a month they come together for fun activities that spark friendship and connection 💛

During our most recent visit to The Bullis School, the kids got creative with a cut-and-paste craft, sharing what makes a good friend. Each idea became a colorful gumball on a giant gumball machine. 🍬

Then it was time to run, climb, and explore the brand-new playground. Laughter filled the air as everyone enjoyed the new structures and sunny day ☀️
We cannot wait to see our Bullis buddies again soon! 🏫✨

Our students had an incredible day at the National Aquarium, where classroom learning transformed into real-world exploration. The purpose of our trip was to deepen students’ understanding of marine ecosystems, ocean habitats, and animal adaptations, and they did just that!

One of the biggest highlights was the immersive 4D shark experience, where students felt like they were swimming alongside sharks while learning about their behaviors and vital role in the ocean ecosystem. 🦈

Students also had the opportunity to safely touch and interact with sea animals, making hands-on connections that brought science to life in an unforgettable way.
Experiences like these spark curiosity, build confidence, and make learning meaningful beyond the classroom. 💙

In Ms. Franny’s Language Arts, we went on an exciting uppercase letter hunt! 🔠✨
We reviewed the alphabet and sang our ABC song (a few times, of course! 🎶), then identified the uppercase letters we’ve learned to write so far this year. To make our practice even more fun, we used watercolors to paint over each letter, reinforcing proper letter formation in a creative, multi-sensory way. 🎨

To connect it all together, we also focused on the sounds each letter makes, thinking about beginning, middle, and ending sounds in words. 🍎

Learning + creativity = a colorful day in Language Arts! 👩🏽‍🏫💛

Last month our K/1 students had an amazing time at Dynamite Gym, building strength, confidence, and coordination through active play. The trip also supported important social skills like following directions, taking turns, and working together.
Obstacle courses, climbing and swinging, and the foam pit made it a fun and memorable learning experience! 🤸‍♀️🎉
