More than home repair. More than service. More than a week. 💙🛠️💛

Our 10th annual Appalachia Service Project trip reminded us that the strongest foundations aren't built with just lumber and concrete—they're built with compassion, courage, and community.

This is what a Sacred Heart education looks like beyond the classroom: listening before leading, serving alongside rather than for others, finding joy in hard work, and returning home with new skills, deeper empathy, and friendships that will last long after the week ends.

📸 Swipe through the photos to see the week in action, then read the full story to hear directly from our students as they reflect on leadership, service, community, and the relationships that transformed them.

On July 22, the Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of Saint Mary Magdalene, Apostle to the Apostles. She was the very first person to see the Risen Lord: the first person entrusted with the Good News. Through her strong faith, Mary believed right away, and she brought word of Christ’s Resurrection.

Saint Mary Magdalene, pray for us and guide us towards hope!

Behind the forecast. Beyond the classroom. 📺🌤️ This summer, students in Topics in Astronomy and Atmospheric Science traded the classroom for the newsroom during an unforgettable visit to DC News Now!

From weather models and forecast graphics to the studio set and control room, students got an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to produce a daily weather broadcast. They experienced firsthand how meteorologists combine science, technology, and communication to keep communities informed before, during, and after impactful weather.

A huge thanks to Chief Meteorologist Jackie Layer and Meteorologist Brittany Ward for opening their doors, sharing their expertise, and inspiring our students to explore careers in atmospheric science and broadcast meteorology.

One of the best parts of teaching in the Washington, DC area is giving students access to experiences like this—where STEM comes alive and future careers feel within reach.
✨ Learning beyond the classroom.
📡 Seeing science in action.
🌎 Inspiring the next generation.

Today is the feast of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha. The first Indigenous American woman to be canonized as a saint, she is the patroness of ecology and the environment.

We ask for her guidance to be good stewards of God’s creation. St. Kateri Tekakwitha, pray for us!

In late June, several Stone Ridge educators attended Roots That Give Us Wings, the Network of Sacred Heart Schools' annual gathering in St. Louis, Missouri.

This inspiring experience invites Sacred Heart educators to deepen their understanding of our shared history, mission, and educational philosophy while connecting with colleagues from across the Network.

We are grateful to be part of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools and proud to continue the mission of Sacred Heart education each day at Stone Ridge. 💞

Hands-on conservation in action! 🌿🦅🐦 Our Environmental & Wildlife Conservation Field Studies students recently visited Patuxent River Park, where they joined SR alumna Erin Shannon '23 to study and band local osprey populations, learning about the challenges facing this important Chesapeake Bay species.

Students also participated in the MAPS Bird Banding Study, helping monitor local songbird populations and even getting the chance to hold birds and witness the banding process firsthand.

These unforgettable field experiences are just one part of our three-week summer course, where students work alongside scientists and conservation professionals to explore wildlife, ecosystems, and conservation through hands-on learning in the field.
