Many of you are probably aware of the Council's proposed cuts to the MCPS budget. Schools need our help right now to ensure that MCPS remains fully funded. MCPS is at risk of losing up to 800 positions with these cuts and next year our students will be affected if we do not act now. The three unions representing MCPS teachers and staff are coming together to send a message to the County Council, but the unions alone will not be enough to convince the County Council. They need to hear from the parents and community if we are going to win this fight.

Please join the Pyle/Whitman community in supporting MCPS schools and share the message below with your PTA listserv and other community members. Yesterday morning Superintendent Thomas Taylor sent an email to all MCPS staff and shared this video message detailing how the County Council's proposed budget cuts will affect MCPS and our schools.

The County Council straw vote (which has historically matched their final budget vote) is scheduled for Thursday, May 14th. That means we are almost out of time to change the County Council members' minds regarding cuts to the MCPS FY27 Operating Budget.

The time for action is NOW! Please support the Pyle/Whitman cluster teachers and staff by calling County Council members TODAY to let them know that these budget cuts will negatively impact our children!

A phone banking script that MCEA (the teacher's union) shared with its members is attached, which includes talking points to use when calling County Council members. Please use this information as a guide for how to speak with council members and their staff when making calls.

Support from parents and the community is crucial in order to get the attention of the County Council members and urge them to reconsider. Without hearing from us, there will be drastic cuts and layoffs in the near future. Please help put a stop to it by calling County Council members TODAY! Feel free to share this message with friends, neighbors, and other concerned community members. These cuts will affect ALL schools in MCPS.

See guidance in pictures. Thank you!

Dear Pyle Parents,
As we approach the end of the school year, we have two very special reasons to come together as a community:
Teacher Appreciation Week and the upcoming retirement of our Principal, Mr. Nardi.
To make these celebrations truly memorable, we are launching a unified fundraising effort. Your contributions will go directly toward:
Teacher Appreciation: Providing daily treats, a catered luncheon, and small tokens of gratitude for our hardworking educators.
Principal’s Retirement Gift: A meaningful farewell gift to honor Mr. Nardi’s years of dedicated service and leadership at Pyle.
Thank you for your continued generosity and for helping us show our staff how much they are valued.

THE PYLE PTSA NEEDS YOU!

The Pyle PTSA depends on parent volunteers, and this year we need your help more than ever. With a new principal joining Pyle next year, strong PTSA support will be especially important for students, staff, and families.

We have a range of volunteer opportunities, from in-school roles that connect you with staff and school leadership to flexible roles that can be done remotely and on your own time. Whether you have a little time or a lot, we would love to have your help. You can review the available roles here (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1r8_ZFkuFqpbhdzJY0pprBQNZ7Oy2pyuv4_ART1_j8fI/edit?tab=t.0).

If you are interested, please email [email protected] by Friday, May 29. If you are not sure what role might be the best fit, we would be happy to talk it through with you. Nominations are welcome too.

Thank you for considering how you might support the Pyle community.

PTA ACTION ALERT: 2026–2027 School Calendar.
Make your voice heard before April 30!

The Board of Education will vote on April 30 on a proposal to start school 5 days earlier and eliminate spring makeup days—meaning snow days could push school further into June, even after testing.

Why it matters:

Earlier start in the 2026-27 school year
No planned spring makeup days
Makeup days may fall after testing/the last day
Less instructional value for students

Take Action: Complete the MCPS Survey
👉 Ihttps://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe6dfSGZ9aNwxX0ZKJvs-4P2MpWltJMRG5a8Y0KrPPpRTA1PQ/viewform?pli=1

Please vote how you wish, this is what MCCPTA proposes:

Select:

Options 2 & 3 (allows flexible makeup days using adjusted breaks/holidays with excused absences)
Comment:

Schedule makeup days March–May (after winter, before testing) for the best learning value
Ensure students receive the required instructional time
Consider alternatives:
Adjust/remove transition days
Use religious holidays (excused, no testing)
Convert grading/reporting days to instructional/half days
