Marks Education provides strategic, tailored counseling, tutoring and teaching services to individuals, high schools, and school districts for high school, college, and graduate school admissions.

* Our Counseling Division offers nuanced advice on high-school, college and graduate school admissions to students around the world. We also counsel high schools and school districts on how best to improve their college guidance. See our results here.
* Our Tutoring Division provides academic tutoring for almost all high school and college subjects and standardized test tutoring for tests including but not limited to the SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, SSAT, ISEE, Advanced Placement, and the SAT Subject tests. Our average score improvements on these tests are many times the industry average.
* We also teach small test preparation classes (average size 7.5 students per class) for our partner high schools and school districts, on almost every American standardized test. We are located in downtown Bethesda, Maryland, just outside Washington, DC.

Students still have time this summer to improve their college profile! Here are some actions to focus on:

1. Start prepping for the SAT and ACT: you still have time for several tutoring sessions before school begins! Our tutors design sessions that help you make impactful gains in a short amount of time.

2. Schedule college tours: You only need to schedule tours a few weeks in advance at most schools. Tours can help you learn more about different schools, express interest in colleges, and have information about individual colleges for supplemental essays.

3. Prepare for fall classes: If you are taking advanced classes or have classes you are worried about, you have over a month to get ahead on material. Our tutors plan sessions that help prepare you for your specific course with your textbook or syllabus.

4. Start writing your college essays: your personal statement is one of the most important pieces of your application and is only 650 words! The personal statement requires applicants to think seriously and creatively about themselves, their experiences, and aspirations. This kind of personal insight often requires lots of deep thinking and time spent revising. That’s why we recommend that students utilize any time they have over the summer to start, and hopefully complete, their personal statement.

5. Volunteer! Lots of non-profits offer opportunities throughout the summer. Spending time volunteering will not only help you complete hours required for your school, but they also demonstrate an initiative and commitment to your values and passions.
