The Leadership Training Program is dedicated to building character in the young leaders of tomorrow. and Sr. LTP) in the Spring of 2006.

History

The program was started by Father Michael Sliney, LC in Bethesda, Maryland, a suburb of Washington D.C., in the Fall of 1997. The inspiration for the program came from the real need for character and virtue formation in a hands-on manner. We seek to empower the community by re-enforcing the values they are trying to instill. Therefore this program is a source of positive peer pressure in which older mentors are the example for the future leaders of our communities. It is a 5-week program offered each semester for boys in 5th through 8th grade from all religious backgrounds, using local high school boys as mentors. The Bethesda program alone grew from 45 boys in 1997, to 110 in the Fall of 2000, to over 160 boys (combined Jr. Ten high school mentors from schools such as Georgetown Preparatory and Gonzaga were the first to be chosen as counselors. The program has also expanded locally to Annapolis, MD, McLean, VA, Ashburn, VA, Alexandria, VA, and Georgetown, bringing our local total to over 200 boys registered for the program each semester. Nationally, the Leadership Program is established in Dallas, New York City, Georgia, Louisiana, Florida, Kansas, Nebraska, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Colorado. Internationally the program has chapters in Brazil and Italy. In 2000, we saw a growing need to expand our program to reach boys in 1st through 4th grades, which inspired us to launch our Junior Leadership Program. Using a similar format, we have adapted our program to reach the younger ages, while using the most qualified of our 5th through 8th graders of the Senior Program as their mentors. The Junior LTP is also a 5-week session offered each semester meeting separately from the Executive program.
