π§Ά A Long-Term Project in Our Primary Classrooms at LβEnfant Montessori π§΅
Learning in Montessori is a journey β and our Primary students are currently immersed in a beautiful, long-term project centered around textiles, culture, and creativity π
Step 1οΈβ£ β Discovery & Inspiration
We began with a special in-class presentation on weaving and Persian rug making, generously shared by a family in our community. Children discovered traditional techniques, materials, and cultural stories πͺ‘β¨
Step 2οΈβ£ β Learning Beyond the Classroom
Our project continued with a visit to the Washington Textile Museum, where students explored textures, patterns, and textiles from around the world ποΈπ
Step 3οΈβ£ β Deepening Learning at School
Back in the classroom, children engaged in textile-themed activities designed to enrich:
π«π· French language development
β Fine motor skills
π§ Concentration and coordination
through carefully prepared Practical Life and language work

Next, our students will welcome an artist-in-residence for hands-on textile exploration, including fabric painting, material collage, pattern creation, and sewing.

π Field Trip to the Farm! ππΎ
Our preschoolers spent a wonderful day exploring the farm and enjoying apple picking under the fall sun! πβοΈ
These experiences nurture a deep love and awareness of nature πΏ β helping children connect with the Earth and understand where our food and natural resources come from. πβ¨
Back in the classroom, the learning continues! π Children observe apples closely, describe IN FRENCH their colors, textures, and smells, and even classify them using discriminating criteria β an early step toward a scientific approach to learning. π§ π
Through these hands-on experiences, curiosity blossoms, and the seeds of respect, observation, and wonder take root. π±π

In our Montessori classrooms, we love aligning activities with the natural rhythm of the seasons! πβ¨ With each change, we introduce new materials and activities that reflect the world outside, sparking childrenβs curiosity and engagement. π»πΏ
This autumn, the classroom is filled with warm, vibrant colors and sensory materials that capture the beauty of fall. π From pumpkins to autumn flowers, each element allows children to connect deeply with nature. Not only do they gain awareness of seasonal changes, but they also find joy in exploring fresh, exciting learning opportunities. ππ

π Exciting Parent Event: Exploring Montessori Math Curriculum! π
Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting a special parent event focused on the Math Curriculum in our Primary and Pre-Primary Montessori classes. πβ¨
Parents had the opportunity to dive into some of the key activities that help children develop a deep, hands-on understanding of mathematical concepts, including:
πΈ Dry Pouring: π§ Building fine motor skills and laying the foundation for problem-solving and sequencing.
πΈ Sorting: ποΈ Enhancing categorization skills that lead to understanding sets and numbers.
πΈ Cards and Counters: π΄ A concrete way to introduce children to counting, number recognition, and the concept of odd and even numbers.
πΈ Formation of Large Numbers: π’ Introducing large number formation through hands-on materials that simplify abstract concepts.
πΈ Additions: β Helping children visualize addition through tactile experiences with Montessori manipulatives.
It was a wonderful opportunity for parents to observe how Montessori's unique approach, using manipulative materials, allows children to understand math concepts in a concrete and intuitive way before moving on to more abstract representations.

πβ¨ We had a fantastic day at Glen Echo Aquarium in Bethesda with our preschoolers! The child-sized aquarium was perfect for our little students, giving them the chance to explore and learn about the Chesapeake Bay marine wildlife up close.ππ¦
This hands-on experience not only helped them understand more about their local environment but also sparked their curiosity and interest in science.π π¬ We loved seeing their excitement and wonder! π

International Preschool was delighted to host an enlightening Parent Night focused on Literacy Development in Montessori Education.

We had a lovely visit to Alma Thomasβ exhibition at the π Smithsonian American Art Museum for ! The children enjoyed the freedom to interpret her paintings πΈ , full of different patterns and hues, with their imaginations β¨!
Art allows children to increase their ποΈ dexterity, concentration, fine motor skills, π§Ά hand and finger strength, and coordination
π Exposure to various realms of art encourages children to appreciate distinct and varied types of beauty!
π¨ They learn to notice the interplay of textures, colors π , and shapes π within a work art and how they can express themselves without words!
