Our Team Is Growing! We thought we were getting Brandon Dami for the summer.
Turns out, we’re keeping him. We’re excited to share that Brandon Dami is staying with Period Zero as a full-year intern!

Brandon originally came to us this summer through Ignite Business Incubator and Co-working Space, and we are incredibly grateful to Ignite for connecting us with someone who has become such a valuable part of the Period Zero team.

What started as a summer internship has grown into something more. Brandon will continue working with Period Zero throughout the year while completing his senior year at Washington & Jefferson College, where he is studying accounting.

And he won’t just be working behind the scenes.

This December, Brandon will step into a leadership role with our NextGen Leaders, leading our Holiday Money Challenge and helping students work through real-life decisions about spending, saving, budgeting, and managing money.

This is exactly what we want Period Zero to be about:

Create an opportunity.
Let someone show you what they can do.
Then find a way to keep them growing.

A big thank you to Ignite for bringing Brandon to Period Zero this summer. The internship may have had an end date, but Brandon’s work with us doesn’t.

Brandon came for the summer. He’s staying for the year. And he’s not the only new face you’ll be seeing. The Period Zero team is growing. Stay tuned.

Tamar Conner’s Impact Showcase

He wrote the goal. Now he’s doing the work.

This summer, we asked Tamar what he was most proud of.

His answer?

“Being able to scale my business.”

Because Tamar isn’t pretending to be an entrepreneur.

He’s building ConnersCookies

His summer goal was to keep growing. Now his Fall SMART Goal takes it further: Tamar wants more people to know about Conner’s Cookies, and he’s working on the marketing skills it takes to make that happen.

His plan? Create content at least three times a week, consistently promote his business, and watch for something every small-business owner wants:

More people recognizing his name.

And now he gets another chance to put that goal into action.

At the upcoming South Park Recreation Center, Tamar and Wright will be right beside the Period Zero table, selling Conner’s Cookies and introducing his business to the community.

So when you see Tamar in this video, don’t just scroll past this young entrepreneur.

Come meet him.
Ask him about Conner’s Cookies.
Buy some cookies.
Let him tell you about the business he’s building.

This is what we mean at Period Zero when we say:

Passion → Purpose → Action.

We don’t want young people waiting until “someday” to discover what they can do.

We give them opportunities to start now.

And if you believe young people deserve more opportunities like this, we’re looking for our first 25 people to give just $10 a month to Period Zero.

$10 a month. 25 people. Real opportunities.

Become one of our first 25 monthly donors →

Come meet Tamar and Wright at South Park — and see what happens when young people are given room to lead.

Daytona learned how to build websites this summer.
Her next goal? Fire ground support.

What makes Daytona's story compelling is the range of what she's exploring. This summer, she was proud that she learned to work with websites and connect with people in different industries.

Then we asked what she wanted to keep developing.

Her answer: firefighting.

And her reason is wonderfully straightforward:

“I really like to help my community.”

By October, Daytona wants to earn her ProBoard for fire ground support, and she's already identified her first step: studying for the written test.

That's Period Zero.

We're not trying to tell young people what their path should look like.

We're giving them opportunities to explore, meet people, build skills and discover what matters to them.

For Daytona, technology and professional connections were part of her summer.

Now her next step is service to her community.

Passion → Purpose → Action.

We're looking for 25 people willing to invest $10 a month so we can keep giving young people like Daytona the room to explore what's possible — and the support to pursue what they discover.

25 people. $10 a month.

Will you be one of our first 25?

We asked Alexis Schlott about her design skills.
She answered the question...and designed the assignment.

Because apparently a plain index card was never an option.

Stars. Flowers. Doodles. Pink ink. A little art everywhere.

That’s Lexi.

This summer, Lexi took that natural creativity and started turning it into a real skill through her role helping with Period Zero’s social media.

When we asked what she was proud of, she wrote about learning design skills for her social media role.

Then we asked our NextGen Leaders what they wanted to do next.

Lexi already knew.

She wants to keep developing her social media design skills, become even better at creating posts, and continue learning through Canva lessons and practice.

And yes, she decorated that answer too.

This is what we mean when we talk about moving from Passion → Purpose → Action.

Sometimes it starts with a young person who can't resist drawing on the assignment.

Then you give her something real to design.

You trust her with an actual role.

And suddenly she's not just someone who likes art.

She's becoming a designer.

This fall, we're looking for 25 people who will invest $10 a month in giving young people more opportunities to discover what they can do and then actually do it.

25 people. $10 a month.

Will you be one of our first 25?

Sometimes growth looks like taking the stage.
Sometimes it looks like realizing: “People can count on me.”

Over the summer, Charlie Rafalowski discovered something important about himself.

He can manage his responsibilities.

He can organize what needs to get done.

He can finish his work on time.

And other people can rely on him.

When Charlie reflected on his summer with Period Zero, he specifically identified finishing his work on time, improving his time management and growing his critical-thinking skills as things he was proud of.

His fall goal builds directly from that experience. He wants to continue developing his reliability and organizational skills, including creating systems for keeping track of the things he's responsible for.

That may sound like a small thing.

It isn't.

Confidence isn't always standing in front of a room.

Sometimes confidence is a young person discovering:

“I can handle this.”

That's the kind of growth your support makes possible at Period Zero.

We're looking for 25 people willing to give just $10 a month so we can continue creating real opportunities for young people to discover what they're capable of. Tina Failla Rafalowski
