FUN FACT FRIDAY: The Ivy Ring Ceremony at Southern Nazarene University is one of the university's longest standing traditions that uses ivy as a symbol of growth, connection, and lasting legacy. The Class of 2026 had their Ivy Ring Ceremony last Friday.
Historically, ivy has been associated with universities for centuries, representing strength, endurance, and the passing of knowledge from one generation to the next. At SNU, this symbolism is reflected as students hold a strand of ivy, representing their personal growth and the lasting connections they share with each other and the university.
The ceremony highlights not just the end of a college journey, but the beginning of a lifelong connection to SNU. Do you remember your ivy ring ceremony?

Planting Seeds of Impact with John 🪴
John invests in the future of SNU through small, faithful steps that grow into lasting impact.
John graduated from BNC/SNU in 1980 and now serves as Alumni Board President and as a member of the Board of Trustees. His connection to the university runs deep and reflects a long Whitsett family legacy. His mother, Dr. Eleanor Whitsett, taught organ in the SNU School of Music for more than 27 years, and his father, Dr. Don Whitsett, graduated from Bethany-Peniel College in 1954.
Throughout his ministry, John has served congregations across the country as a pastor in the Church of the Nazarene, leading churches in Texas, California, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Nebraska.
“I believe one of the great principles of life is that small, consistent investments over time create an impact far beyond what we might expect,” John shares. “Giving a small monthly gift to SNU allows me to bless a place that contributed so wonderfully to my life.”
Through Spring Planting, gifts of all sizes create opportunities for students to grow, lead, and pursue their calling.
