The 13th Annual Texas/Oklahoma Regional Undergraduate Symposium (TORUS) was held Saturday, February 23, 2019 on the campus of Southern Nazarene University (SNU) in Bethany, OK. Rotating yearly between member universities, the conference provides undergraduate research presentation, learning, and networking opportunities for undergraduate mathematics majors and their faculty.

Science Scholars Day 2017 was a great success! We had three wonderful high school seniors attend who have committed to SNU! They had the opportunity to visit classes in the morning, have lunch with current students and faculty, sit in on a presentation by current students Jared Galbraith and Jacob Williams, and do a science experiment with Dr. Shawna York!

Dr. Nathan Drake and Dr. Nicholas Zoller took Aaron Couch (math 2019) and Mark Lawrence (math 2019) to the annual meeting of the Oklahoma-Arkansas Section of the Mathematical Association of America. The meeting was held April 6 - 8, 2017 on the main campus of the University of Oklahoma in Norman. On April 7 Aaron presented the results of his 2016 summer research project in which he studied three semesters of SNU chapel attendance data. Aaron and Mark also competed in a Math Jeopardy competition on April 6. They finished third place in round 1 of the competition while competing against 9 other universities. Dr. Zoller served as a judge for the student paper competition while at the conference.

The Physics Department enjoyed a great trip to New Mexico to visit Los Alamos, the Trinity Test Site, and the Very Large Array. Condolences to Dr. Neuenschwander who could not join us on the trip due to the passing of his father. Next time... Here are some pictures from the Math Department trip to the Texas Oklahoma Regional Undergraduate Symposium (TORUS) held at Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma on Saturday, February 25. Four students attended: Jared Galbraith (physics), Mark Lawrence (math), Aaron Couch (math), and Joshua Lessner (math). Dr. Nathan Drake also attended. At the end of the conference, there was a Math Jeopardy competition. The SNU team of Jared Galbraith, Mark Lawrence, and Aaron Couch placed third out of eight teams in the competition. They are pictured in some of the photos showing off their third place prizes.

SNU Environmental Studies Seniors Taylor Marshall and Hannah Warner will be going to Au Sable Institute for Environmental Studies (http://ausable.org/) this summer and have been awarded financial support. Hannah received a Missionary Earthkeeping Fellowship, and Taylor, having taken classes last summer at Au Sable, has accepted a paid research position for the summer.
