Amazing opportunities for our students!

Federal officials say the nation continues to face a shortage of air traffic controllers as air travel demand grows.

The University of Oklahoma is working to help meet that need through an FAA-approved training program that allows qualified graduates to move directly into on the job training after graduation.

Students in OU’s School of Aviation train using simulators that recreate real-world air traffic control scenarios.

“When the students start working the problems and the aircraft are calling them, it becomes real to them really quick,” said program director Stephen West.

Putnam City Aviation students have the opportunity to intern over the summer as paid employees for different Aviation companies in the OKC area. Two of our summer interns, soon to be juniors at Putnam City North High School, got the opportunity today to sit in the back of a private jet as it was on its test flight after they helped perform maintenance on it under the supervision of licensed mechanics. One of the highlights of the day will be the opportunity to experience our helicopter flight simulator. Ever wondered what it’s like to sit in the pilot’s seat? Stop by and give it a try while learning more about helicopter flight training and aviation careers.

This event is hosted by Semper Fly Helicopters, and our goal is simple: introduce the next generation to the rotorcraft industry and showcase the many opportunities available in aviation.

🏫 Schools, youth groups, and educators are encouraged to attend! If you’ve ever wanted to spark an interest in aviation, this is a great opportunity for students to see helicopters up close, meet industry professionals, explore career paths, and even try their hand at flying in the simulator.

Check out the Caldwell Collection this summer!

New weekday hours are coming to The Caldwell Collection at Mustang Field.

Starting the week of June 1, the museum will be open:

Wednesday-Friday: 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
Saturday: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

That means more time to walk through the hangar, explore the aircraft, bring out-of-town guests, and experience a living collection of Golden Age aviation history right here in El Reno.

Tomorrow is the last day for students at Putnam City Aviation! It has been an incredible year and we can’t wait until next year! We would also like to announce the departure of our fire teacher Mr. Rose. Mr. Rose has spent the last three years with us and has served as our avionics, Flight 2, CSI, and Meteorology instructor.
