How many of these have you already seen? What else would you add to the list?

Nature provides so many opportunities for us to stand in wonder, awe, and amazement. But let's also remind ourselves that the little things are equally able to inspire us: the strength of an ant, the sparkle of dew on a spiderweb, the sounds of wind in the trees, the smell of pine needles underfoot, etc.

Please note that the "points" are arbitrary and only need to signify what you want! This isn't a contest or a race. Some people have more budget for travel, allowing them to see a greater number of these "amazing things". Others find amazing things around them every day. Let's just appreciate what nature provides us every day, when we take the time to look!

Get them outside!

The growing trend is to keep babies up and off the outdoor environment until they are toddlers for "safety" or to prevent them from getting dirty; however, there are great benefits to letting them crawl around in the dirt and grass from an early age.

Just ONE of these benefits is the unevenness of the ground babies encounter when they crawl outside. Indoors, the flatness of the floor does little to provide challenge to the muscles and senses over time. On the other hand, the natural terrain constantly stimulates various muscles throughout the upper body, core, and lower body - refining, developing, and adapting the body to become more and more strong and capable.

ANOTHER benefit is that babies are exposed to new tactile (touch) sensations while they crawl. Feeling grass, dirt, leaves, etc. on their hands as they move. This happens while they are receiving deep and comforting pressure through their own body weight. This weight helps to override the sometimes aversive sensations of touch, helping to integrate this sense after repeated exposure. Therefore, crawling helps to integrate the touch sense (increased tolerance to getting dirty) and strengthens the body at the same time!

Take your babies outdoors today and watch the difference!
