Please join us this AA alumni weekend (October 16-17, 2026) as we celebrate Frederick “Rick” Kosinski with the Teacher Legacy Award. Andrews Academy's history is full of legendary faculty/staff who have humbly ministered at AA and continued to minister to the world after teaching at Andrews Academy!

During Sabbath School (October 17, 2026), it will be our pleasure to honor Frederick “Rick” Kosinski. In 1973, the Kosinskis moved to Berrien Springs, Michigan, where Rick was a high school counselor and part-time teacher at Andrews Academy (AA) from 1973-1979. While at AA, he developed a backpacking program featuring annual trips to hike either the Shore-to Shore trail in Northern Lower Michigan or trails near Smoky Mountain National Park. This experience led to a lifelong interest in backpacking and hiking, and he has been blessed with the opportunity to backpack all over the American West. It was at AA that he earned the nickname “Ski.” He reluctantly left AA and high school teaching in 1979 to pursue a PhD in Counseling Psychology..

We have traditionally announced this on the school website and by school email communication prior to alumni weekend, three years ago we started the tradition of announcing this on Facebook so that more AA alumni know of this year’s recipient and can express their congratulations to Rick Kosinski.

This week’s chapels celebrated Hispanic Heritage Week as part of Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15–October 15). This year’s theme, “Together We Are More,” was highlighted as Mrs. Silvestre invited all Hispanic students to the front to lead everyone in a song on this last day of the week.

Jonah Bourget, AA junior, introduced his father, Pastor Bourget, who began by asking, “What do we do with all the nations and peoples of the world? Are we all called to be unified?”

He then turned to Scripture, inviting us to look at Revelation to see what heaven will be like and consider how we can model that unity here on earth. Reading from Revelation 7, he shared the vision of a “great multitude that no one could count.” While we sometimes hear about the faithful few, God’s ultimate vision is a multitude too great to count. God wants each of us to be there!

As we read further, we discover that this multitude comes from every nation, tribe, people, and language. In heaven, we will see a beautiful variety of cultures. We will not be blended into one homogeneous group; instead, our differences will remain part of the wonderful diversity of God’s family. If heaven celebrates such variety, we should celebrate the differences that enrich our community here on earth.

Our unity comes from something greater than our similarities: our salvation belongs to God! We will worship Him together, united by our love for Jesus and the knowledge that He loves each one of us. This shared faith brings us together as one family in worship.

We were blessed by the time, effort, and commitment of our Hispanic students, who worked diligently to share a week filled with culture, music, and meaningful reflections. Their contributions helped us learn more about the Hispanic community while reminding us of the beauty of our diversity and the importance of worshiping together.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this week such an enjoyable and meaningful experience of learning, fellowship, and worship. Together, we truly are more!

The afternoon following PSAT testing, faculty participated in an in-service session to renew our CPR certifications, which typically needs to be renewed every two years. We spent the afternoon learning, practicing, and reviewing important lifesaving techniques. Hopefully, we’ll never need to use these skills, but it’s reassuring to be prepared just in case! While the rest of the school was taking the PSAT, the seniors spent the day at Andrews University enjoying interactive programs, activities, worship, and a delicious breakfast. Afterward, they were divided into five teams and sent on a university-wide scavenger hunt, earning points as they raced to complete challenges and finish in first place.

Mr. Atkins was stationed at the gym, capturing plenty of photos of that part of the scavenger hunt. At each destination, teams participated in activities and completed challenges. The event concluded with pizza and awards recognizing participation, speed, and thoroughness in completing the tasks. Oct. 8, 2026.

This week’s chapels celebrate Hispanic Heritage Week, part of Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15–Oct. 15). This year's theme, “Together We Are More.” Mrs. Silvestre led a fun and interactive trivia session on Hispanic heritage.

Sebastian Silie, an AA junior, began his talk by sharing several possible titles before settling on “I’ve Run Out of Things to Say.” He chose this title to encourage everyone to stop simply talking about making a difference and instead take action.

He shared four main points. First, understand your value. He reminded students that, no matter where they are on earth, their heritage is part of who they are, and God has given each person value and worth.

Second, decide on a purpose. He explained that a strong community is made up of people who live with purpose. He also highlighted the importance of helping others and making a positive difference in their lives.

Third, remove pride and live for Jesus. When we have a genuine encounter with God, we are ready to put our faith into action and live for Him.

Fourth, recognize your ability to change lives. Sebastian encouraged everyone to make a difference in the school community by showing love to others and helping Andrews Academy become a school known for its love.

He concluded by inviting everyone to stand and place a hand over their heart as he prayed for the school. His final challenge was simple but powerful: Let’s make Andrews Academy a school of love!
