For the 37th year in a row, for 24 hours, starting at midnight on Saturday, May 9th 2020, birders will be looking and listening for as many bird species as possible. Yes, we are still doing the WSB, despite the COVID19 concerns, a “Special Edition": in keeping with federal, state and local restrictions, we will practice social distancing, and focus on our home “patches”, yards, neighborhoods, or outdoor public spaces such within 10 miles of our homes. Even though we will not be together face to face, we are looking forward to lots of communication and sharing, and virtual camaraderie, and lots of birds!
Our team, the Uncommon Nighthawks, includes members in New Jersey, but this year also other spots along the Atlantic Flyway, in Florida, North Carolina, and Massachusetts. We are raising funds for research activities, such as citizen science. Using sound scientific principles, NJA Research Department develops the information needed to guide decisions on conservation policy, species conservation, and land stewardship initiatives.

And enjoy spring! The birds are moving through again, providing a lot of joy in these strange and stressful times!
