Teaching w/ Meaning: A Pan-African Experience for Education, Recap Part 1 - Morning Meal Praxis: FIRE & FOOD
We began daily with a review of the importance of a strong rhythm (repetition) and relationship with fire. We discussed how to mentally and physically prepare (self-regulate) ourselves as educators — as well as support the children with our regulation — using songs and nature’s tactile experience (collecting and prepping fire materials) to ground and create a safe container.
We also:
- Prepared easy-to-manage meals over an outdoor fire
- Reviewed regulations
- Discussed fire safety precautions
- Set up a dish station
“The way to move to a productive understanding of and relationship with fire is experienced not as a combustive fire, but warm, comforting, and loving fire…”
