Welcome to Salsa at Cal! We are a student-run organization at UC Berkeley dedicated to providing salsa lessons and dance socials to students and the public
Salsa at Cal welcomes dancers of all levels--from no dance experience to seasoned salseros looking for a fun and welcoming environment. We provide free weekly salsa dance lessons, bimonthly social dance parties, performance teams and a beginner & intermediate Decal course for students.

We couldn’t end the year without a little message from Ariana, Milena, and Toshi, the Fall 2022 DeCal Instructors 🫶
This instruction team showed up every week to make sure that their students could learn, release some tension from school, and end their days dancing to the best rhythms!
They are incredibly grateful with everyone who contributed to all the fun and success of this semester, & can’t wait to keep on growing the Salsa at Cal Familia :)

Meet the Salsistants: Julie and Laila!!
Julie is a Senior studying English. She joined Salsa at Cal in Fall 2021 and has been dancing with us ever since!! A fun fact about Julie is that she loves going to concerts and music festivals. Julie’s favorite part of Salsa at Cal is the strong community we’ve cultivated and she enjoys watching the end of the year performances! ✨
Laila is studying sociology and has been with Salsa at Cal for 3 semesters. Some fun facts about her are that she’s tall, she’s been dancing her whole life, and she was on How I Met Your Mother for 3 seconds as a child!! She loves Salsa at Cal because of all the new people she gets to meet and make connections with.
Our Salsistants do an amazing job of answering questions that students may have and are available to step in however needed! We’re so grateful to have them on our team🫶🏽

SALSA SPOTLIGHT: Tanmay and Diya!!
Diya is a 3rd year majoring in MCB with a Data Science minor. Salsa at Cal is Diya’s favorite fun-filled activity in the week and she says the community is super supportive. Along with salsa, Diya is a part of a Bollywood dance team on campus called Azaad. This is her first semester with Salsa at Cal as a Follow and we’re super glad to have her!
Meet Tanmay! He enjoys Salsa at Cal because it’s a great community to learn the fundamentals of latin dance and meet new people. When he’s not dancing salsa, Tanmay is an avid tennis player. This is Tanmay’s second semester in the DeCal as a Lead and it’s encouraging to see him back with us!

Meet the Salsa Assistants, or as we call them, Salsistants! Natalie (right) says the DeCal was super enjoyable to her. She loves all of the kind and amazing people she meets through Salsa at Cal! Rene (left) enjoys being in a community that has a mutual love for dancing. Salsa at Cal was Rene’s first official dance class and allowed her to take a piece of home with her to college 💗 Our Salsistants are not only expert follows but they lead too! Make sure you say hi in class and ask them to dance :)

SALSA SPOTLIGHT: Belen and Matthew!!
Belen is a 4th studying MCB! She loves to travel and her favorite place she’s visited is Paris✨✨ She enjoys the people at Salsa at Cal most. The vibe is definitely right!
Matthew is a Sophomore studying Nutritional Science. He likes to play sports and exercise 🏈 He enjoys Salsa at Cal because it reminds him of his roots at home. He loves to share part of his culture with the Cal community!
