When we designed M.E.T., the cohort structure was an understated variable. Program founder Michael Grimes has now called it the exponential factor. Community begets itself. 📈

Here’s what that looks like in practice: Aditya Kirubakaran and Ish*ta Samadhiya (M.E.T. ’29) interned at Frontdesk AI through our Entrepreneurial Fellows Program — founded by Ruchir Baronia (M.E.T. ’23), with Aadhrik Kuila (M.E.T. ’21) as Founding Product Manager. 🐻

⚡ Aditya built a GTM engine that’s already generated ~$500K in pipeline, plus activation rewards, events tooling, and usage monitoring.

🛠️ Ish*ta shipped manual calling and call imports end to end, built CRM customization, and turned the Warm Lead Router into an automated system that’s searched 10,000+ leads.

In Ruchir’s words, these M.E.T. interns left Frontdesk better than they found it — not through “intern projects,” but real products, systems, and measurable impact.

Before it was a tradition, it was just an idea Abhi had.

Abhi Samantapudi (M.E.T. ’21) was the first-ever president of the M.E.T. Student Board. He presented program leadership with a pitch: M.E.T. students are built for the intersection of engineering and business, and their networking opportunities should reflect that.

That same evening, our Executive Director Chris Dito started calling employers — and in Fall 2019, the first M.E.T. Employer Meet and Greet happened. Our tight-knit cohort was able to network directly with industry professionals recruiting for cutting-edge roles. 🤝

As a student, Abhi was an engineering fellow at Kleiner Perkins through a former M.E.T. partnership. He went on to Salesforce, then to Glean as a product manager. Today he’s building at Applied Compute, a high-profile startup founded by former OpenAI researchers, training custom AI models and deploying an agent workforce. 🤖

Thank you, Abhi, for helping us level up during our formative years. With our upcoming Employer Meet and Greet just around the corner, we’re reminded of where it all began. 🐻💙💛

Ten classes in. 🐻

This week we welcomed the M.E.T. Class of 2030 to UC Berkeley, just steps from Blum Hall, where nine years ago we gathered our inaugural class for their very first program welcome. 🥹

Berkeley M.E.T. was founded on a simple premise: that two distinct colleges could chart one path for students who want to build at the intersection of engineering and business. Nine years later, that dream is being realized in our students and alumni.

To the Class of 2030, welcome! We can’t wait to grow with you.

None of this happens without our colleagues at Berkeley Engineering and UC Berkeley Haas School of Business. To a great year!

Emily Mo (M.E.T. ‘28) had a 🙆‍♀️🚀

She shares that the most rewarding part of her work was building alongside a team of passionate and dedicated people with a strong shared mission. She also got to watch the world’s largest IPO unfold from the inside, which is not the kind of thing that shows up on a syllabus. 📈

Emily points to M.E.T. as the reason she got to SpaceX this summer: older students in the program connected her to opportunities that led directly to her internships today. 🤝 The network works because people keep passing it forward.

7 multi-million dollar projects. 1 lead engineer. 👾 Arissa Zheng (M.E.T. ’27) is heading into her final year at Berkeley after a summer as a Member of Technical Staff at Mercor Ⓜ️🐻

This summer traces back to the M.E.T. trip to Mercor this past February, where students toured the office and heard from Co-CEO, Adarsh Hiremath💡

She led engineering across multiple projects for a top frontier lab client, building RL environments for design 🎨 working with researchers and artists on a product that’s shaping future AI model releases.

Cam Malloy (M.E.T. ’29) just got backed by Y Combinator! 🔥 🍊

He and his cofounder Nikita, a fellow Berkeley CS student, are building Studio ♾️ a platform that lets consumer brands simulate how a launch will perform before it goes live. Revenue, churn, customer sentiment 📈 all modeled in advance instead of discovered the hard way. 🔮

Ten years ago, M.E.T. was a new idea. Avanthika Ramesh (M.E.T. ’21) took a chance on it 🌱

In her own words, “M.E.T. offered what I wanted to do in the future, but I never knew there was a program out there.”

The dual degree in engineering and business let her build in both directions, mixing business case comps with her EECS classes. Avanthika became our first M.E.T. graduate — a year early at that, and joined Salesforce’s APM program before she’d even finished. She’s now one of the youngest Senior Directors at Salesforce. ☁️

As our program approaches its 🔟 year anniversary, we’re thinking about the students who trusted us early and shaped what M.E.T. became 💙💛

A summer spent studying the sky 🌌

Adam Richter (M.E.T. ‘29) just wrapped up his internship at Skymapper Inc. through the Entrepreneurial Fellows Program. His primary project was writing control code to run telescopes autonomously. 🔭 🖥️

By the end of his 12 weeks at Skymapper, Adam could send a single command that allowed a telescope to locate, track, and photograph multiple celestial objects over the course of a night — as a result, his skills in firmware engineering, astronomy, and life increased over the course of a summer. 📸🪐🌞
